Pitboss problem, and a proposed solution

Hi everyone,
I have an interesting problem here. I would like to play Civ 4 behind a firewall that I don't have any control over. The only way I can get out to the open internet is through a proxy server that only handles TCP traffic.

But, I think this shouldn't be a problem since the people who want to play are all behind the firewall, in the network. Right now, we can only play with two people direct connect, or just one person connected to a pit boss server. A third (or second) person connecting fails with errors.

What I think would work would be to set up an openVPN server (on XP) and have clients connect the VPN network, and then play on a pit boss server.

Does anyone have experience setting such a network up? Do you think (or know) if it will work with Civ 4?

Thanks in advance,

I suggest checking out Hamachi (www.hamachi.cc) - it's a free program that establishes a VPN between everyone using it, and it works very well. It even works if everyone is behind a firewall.
