For those who don't know what it is, read the wiki article on the plant salvia divinorum here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salvia_diviniorum

This psychoactive herb is currently legal in most states in the US, and in most countries in the world. However, more and more states are banning it, and it will likely be considered an illegal substance within a few years. After reading up on it, do you think it should be illegal?

Also, should a drug be illegal because of its harmful and addictive effects, or because one is morally opposed to people getting high?
Because that is basically what this boils down to. Salvia has no negative side effects, no toxins harmful to the body, and is not chemically addictive (unlike alcohol which is both toxic and can be chemically addictive if one is genetically inclined). The high lasts only a few minutes and there has been no reports of violent and destructive behavior by someone on salvia. The plant has received negative reports due to a kid (who also drank alot) who commited suicide 4 MONTHS AFTER HE PURCHASED salvia. This is an isolated case inflated by media, and even in this case there is no proven correlation between this kid killing himself and buying salvia.

P.S I have never done salvia myself because of the social stigma involved, but I am not opposed to it.

Nothing should be illegal due to its harmful and addictive effects on its own. You will commit the runaway train fallacy (why stop there? Let's ban all things that have potentially harmful and addictive effects).

But, if there were other reasons to ban it, I don't see why not.

Though, I don't know enough about this plant to say either way.

Yes with the age restriction would be ideal. Ideally it should be 18 but in the US I'll be realistic and say 21 because the US likes to treat grown adults like children for some reason.

Yes, it should be legal. Many of my friends have done salivia all it does is give you an intense trip for about 5 minutes or so. The only reason people think salvia is dangerous is because of those ******s who post video's of themselves on youtube tripping supposedly on salvia.

I personally haven't used it because I'll only get bad trips from hallucinogens I don't have the right mindset for good trips.

It should be legal, with some restrictions. I wouldn't be too upset if it were banned.

It's not a pot-LSD hybrid the media tries to portray it as.

I say it shouldn't be legal. Only because anything that gives you a "trip" sounds harmful. But thats just my opinion.

I assume you're on board with banning acetaminophen right?

Age restrictions sound good enough.

You could have asked a mod to add a poll to the other thread. :)

Isn't the more appropriate question "why shouldn't it be legal?"? :)

I voted for the 3rd option, but I admit I don't know very much about it so if someone can convince me it is dangerous (which so far doesn't seem to be the case at all) I will change my opinion.

Well if you decided to smoke it while driving, you'd likely end up in a tree.

However... it's not the type of thing you do when driving. I doesn't lend itself to driving. It's something you'd be very uncomfortable doing outside of laying down.

To be frank, that simply just means that it should be illegal to do mind-altering substances while driving. Which is quite frankly a no-brainer.

tennessee made it illegal at some point in the past few years. i really dont care either way, i've heard about too many bad trips. so the fun's still in acid, shrooms, and dmt.

but bad trips aside, it should be legal. in fact, a drug should only be legal imo if it's on par with things like heroin and crack in terms of overall social damage.

It should be age-restricted (until adulthood, which varies from place to place), like all drugs including alcohol.

Excuse me, I have to goto space now.

ahahaahahahaha

Never heard of it before. From the wiki article, I'd say it should probably be legal, but with age restrictions - 18 or 21 sounds fine, and of course driving under its influence (unlikely given its apparent short duration, but you never know) should be illegal. Make its legality the same as alcohol in pretty much every respect, I'd say.

My friend wrote this after his salvia trip:

salvia divinorum is truly a wonder drug, an amazing plant, and a great medicine
however, it must be used with caution and in a good setting. this plant will take you to a different place and change ur life forever....
today after i had smoked some salvia i was taken to a different place yet again, however this time to a better place. I am still under its effect, however it is wearing off...
there i saw the wheel of life, and how everything is like a cycle. rebirth, death, universal orbits.
there, a man sat by the wheel constantly turning it letting no distraction get in the way. he sat there himself smoking this wonderful plant controlling the wheel. another person, a woman this time, showed me my life path and also the obstacles. she explained the numbers, the universe, finite and infinite.
here is a plant that can change the world ..in a good way
she also explained how that all drugs, including marijuana, lsd are there only to serve this purpose.

Salvia is legal right now. There is no need to alter the legislation on it whatsoever. It's a fringe drug, always has been, always will be. A lot of my friends that tried it didn't even like it.

Ironically enough, marijuana was a fringe drug too, until the gubbamint decided it was evil, at which point everyone picked it up.

so what, is Viagra harmful because its a DRUG? :)
BTW option three is best, we don't know if kids will smoke POUNDS to try to get higher than high
(BTW im 15 and no i dont use Viagra)
