Do you think its alright for cities and towns to put up lights or other Christmas decorations around town, on lamp posts, in public squares etc...

My town has lights and green stuff on all the lamp posts downtown. Above the main intersection these is a "Unity Triangle" in lights. F--- that, i know its a Christmas tree! theres also a huge tree with lights in front of the State House.

what you think?

No you should only do it on property you own.

The government has no obligation to endorse any religious festival.

Yeah, 'cuz its fun. Down here the businesses all fund it. Brings in customers.

I dont see how that affects where customers shop.

Unity triangle. That's a good one.
I'm an atheist and I'd rather have Christmas lights any day over that PC crap. "Holidays season". Yeah right.

Christmas music, on the other hand...

To put it very simply:

Where would you rather do your Christmas shopping?

a) A town that has festive lights up (Truro currently has a lot more than this)
b) A town that does not.

So you drive all the way to another city just to shop?

I go to the nearest electronics store that has what i want.

As long as I'm not paying for it.

Christmas lights? Yes.

Unity Triangles? No. That's ******ed.

No offense intended to anyone who is, or is related to someone who is actually ******ed. ;)

I don't think anyone would go shopping in a city just because of its lights. Most people go where is convenient or where they want to support.

Cornwall has a few market towns and a large rural population. Christmas shopping is almost an attraction in its self. They close of the roads in town on Saturdays and Wednesdays especially for it.

Maybe its different in America, but I expect its more to do with the lack-of-jollies-from-Christmas-lights thing you have going.
