Got dozens of bookmarked oddities to sort through from the last few months. This one is on point for a scenario 'pedia entry. A previous post linked to info about a functional hydraulic valve computer. Ever speculate about how Well's Martians computed trajectories to reach Earth? Read the last sentence.
Instead of squirrels running inside of wheels, Well's Martians used captured Soldier Crab slaves scurrying about on billiard tables in their computer devices?
This isn't exactly a steampunk gizmo, but might be of interest to any "Lost World" fans and it might be useful for a scenario idea. This thread looked like the best spot to post this in. It's a mountain in South America that might have been Doyle's inspiration for the story. Mount Roraima.
There is some more amazing photos and some back story about this mountain and it's possible connection with Doyle's novel here:
Prominently featured in the movie "Up". Reminds me of another thought that I had, when working with the Toejam terrain: if the same technique that Pounder uses to create terraced seas were applied to the land, you could create a terrain with plateaus and valleys (and clouds). Like that one.
Thanks scratchthepitch. I have been thinking about a Solar Steamer victory for the SteamPunk Earth scenario (Lost Worlds has its Time Machine) - that video would make a nice victory animation.
