THE Civ of the Week Thread!

@veBear: Looks cool! Now that means I have to start making my CotWs again... :mischief:

That's fine, altough I can not make a promise of not making it.
I just maked a Setthathirat Leaderhead.

I don't mind if you make it, of course, I mean veBear and I don't have a monopology on civ-making, you know. ;)

Anyhow, my choice of leader was Sourigna Vongsa, but he's close enough to Setthathirat in terms of time period. Have you released your LH yet?

Is there a way I can group all these together into one mod?
Or preferably add them all to the Rise of Mankind Mod?

Grouping them together is possible, though it will take some XML work. THere are several tutorials in the tutorials section that can help you do this.

As for adding them to Rise of Mankind, I am not sure. Rise of Mankind uses a unique SDK, so I don't know if that will cause problems with the XML tags; you should ask the modders working on it to make sure, I can't answer that for you, unfortunately.

Sourigna Vongsa???
Who do you have in mind for using as him, because there are no images of him.
No,I have not released him,yet.

^Less images leaves more room for creativity... that's what's so great about it

Kingdom of Zimbabwe
The Kingdom of Zimbabwe (1220–1450) was a kingdom located in the territory of modern-day Zimbabwe. It is famous for its capital, Great Zimbabwe, the largest stone structure in Southern Africa until recent times. The kingdom of Zimbabwe controlled the ivory and gold trade from the interior to the southeastern coast of Africa. Asian and Arabic goods could be found in abundance in the kingdom. Cattle domestication, which had been crucial to the earlier proto-Shona states, was also practiced. It is here used to representent Southern Africa north of South Africa, which is representated by the Zulu.

This is a cooperation project between veBear's civs and cybrxkhan's Civ of the Week.

Wow, very nice! I like the zebra cavalry. :D

If you end up doing Laos, a war-elephant UU is the obvious choice ("land of a million elephants", etc.) Fish have been the primary source of protein for Laotions and have been for millenia, so an interesting UB might be the dtalat bpaa ("fish market")- a harbor that can be built in non-coastal cities with fresh water (giving extra health from fish, etc even to non-coastal cities) and that provides a flat commerce, gpt or health bonus instead of a trade route.

It's tough to think of UUs and UBs that are substantially different than the Khmer because of the cultural similarities, though.

An extremely interesting civ to do might be the Hmong, an East Asian ethnic group who had an independent kingdom in southern China as as late as 900 AD or so before being pushed out/migrating south into Laos (there are still Hmong living in China, though). There's a good description of the Hmong here, although it is not 100% accurate. The Hmong used crossbows all the way into the Vietnam war, including some that were very large; a crossbowman UU that requires no resources and gets access to all Woodsman promotions (maybe starting with Woodsman I) could be a lot of fun, especially with a protective leader. Good choices for leaders would be Batchai (a.k.a "the madman") or Chiyou (semi-mythical king who fought the Yellow Emperor, and who is claimed by a number of East Asian ethnic groups, not just the Hmong).

First off, I played as your Dzunghar Civ, and I am impressed with your work. I didn't even know the Dzunghars existed until I saw that custom Civ here.

Secondly, I would like to ask if you had plans for a Punt or Tepanec civ.

Thirdly, I want to know: how good are you at this that you can make a new Civ EVERY WEEK? I don't even know if I could do it in a year...

@Cerenkov: Thanks for the suggestions. I already outlined Laos in my notes, but I might use your suggestions if it suits them better. Also thanks for suggesting the Hmong. Being Vietnamese, I've known a bit about them here and there, so I think they'll make a good addition on my to-do list.

Could you re-release the Khazars? The link is broken, and I want the Khazars in my mod.

No problem. I'll try to do it as soon as I have time.

Thanks for the compliments! I don't release a new Civ every week (although I can in theory), although I think I sort of used to when this first started. It's just the trademark name now. Anyhow, I don't have any plans for Punt since information on Punt is pretty scanty - not to mention its actual location is debated (I know, I've read up on Ancient Egypt and related stuff for quite a while now); Tepanec sounds more plausible, but there also isn't that much information.

Not sure where to post this,but...
Does anybody know what happened to cybrxkhan?
His last activity was in February 2012 and if he never returns that would be a great loss of talent...

Hi all,

I’m returning to CFC. Unfortunately, it’s not in the manner that I – or some of you – might wish.

Some of you might remember me. It’s been a while since I’ve been back on, and I don’t know if some of my old friends here are still back on, but if you guys are, hello again – and hello to any of the new modders and mod-lovers, as well – and sorry, so sorry, for not being on CFC for such a long time.

I’ll get straight to my point. This past year or so, I haven’t been doing anything much related to Civ4 modding – or Civ4 at all. Yes, unfortunately, I think it is time I officially retire from Civ4 modding. As other retired modders have said, when modding feels more like a chore rather than a hobby, there’s really no point of continuing it. Regrettably, this also means that I have a lot of unfinished material (such as WoL 0.70) that will never see the light of day, mostly because it’s in an unplayable state. I have to sincerely apologize to everyone who was patiently and eagerly looking forward to my work but never got anything after all my constant delays, postponing, and – now – ultimate retirement. If anybody wants to attempt continuing my old work, or wants to use some of my old work (or some of the unfinished material I have (for instance I have a few leaderheads lying around)), feel free to PM me and I’ll see if we can work out something. I might be convinced to finish up some of my smaller projects (i.e. diplomacy music but not CotW) if anybody really needs something.

It’s a bit sad to go now, when I haven’t done much in such a long time, but I suppose I might as well do it officially now rather than fade out. I’ve had quite a ton of fun these past few years, learning more about history and programming, making good friends on this board, learning a bit about myself. I don’t know if any of the older generations of modders, including my generation, are still active, but I sincerely hope that I (and others of my generation) have provided good influence on later generations, just as earlier generations of modders (such as Wyz_sub and Arma) provided on me. I want to therefore thank you all of the fellow modders I have worked with and received assistance from, including Wyz_sub, The Capo, Ekmek, Nitram15, veBear, Gaius Octavius, Ball Lightning, Dutchking, The J, and many others I can’t remember, and I also want to thank the countless others forum members who, although not modders, still provided just as much help, encouragement, and guidance. I hope that I was able to provide even a little bit of help, encouragement, and guidance in return.

It’s been really fun. I remember when I first joined five or six years ago, unsure of myself and of my abilities. I was still in high school back then, and I really owe it to the kindness of Wyz sub for taking me in and allowing me to help with the diplomacy music for CivGold. A lot has happened since then, and I’m now in college and the world (including my personal one) has changed much, for better or worse – but I’m certain civfanatics, even if I forget about it from time to time, was an important part of my life for many years, and that is meaningful and wonderful in and of itself.

Anyhow, enough with sentimentality. Once more, I offer my deepest apologies for being unable to finish the work I should have finished a long time ago. However, even though I’m retiring, I’ll still be around Civfanatics, if any of you folks need me, so feel free to chat/argue with me on some of the other forums or send me a PM to talk about the good old days.

See y’all around!

- cybrxkhan

P.S. Although I’m retiring from Civ4 modding, I haven’t retired from modding altogether per se. I might consider going into Civ5 modding if Gods and Kings proves to be entertaining enough (I haven’t bought it yet), and right now I’m dabbling a bit into playing around with CKII.

I'm happy that you returned, but I'm also sad that you will quit modding.
We all accept and respect your choice.
Can you maybe release your unfinished leaderheads?
Maybe some leaderhead makers can continue your work and release them?

Happy retirement cybr, It's been an honour to cooperate with you :)
I hope you will still be lurking around like me though (not really doing that much, but still participating in conversations etc.)

Hmm... good idea about the leaderheads.

I don't have too many unfinished leaderheads left... Actually, let me take a look.

Alright, in my folders, I have unfinished LHs for:

- Abaoji (Khitan)
- Afonso (of Aragon/Castile, i.e. generic medieval spanish)
- Barghash (Swahili)
- Devapala (Bengal)
- Dharmasetu (Srivijaya)
- Nader Shah (Iran)
- Umar (Arabia)

All are unfinished to varying degrees, so I'm uncomfortable about releasing them. Any LH makers interested in using whatever is left of these folks is more than welcome, though, so if anybody really is interested in using these just tell me and maybe I'll upload them to CFC or send them through PM.

And it's been an honour to work with you as well, particularly since you were the last modder I cooperated with and since our projects were my last completed projects.:salute:

I'll be running around CFC, but I might not be around the modding forums too much - although I'll still have my subscriptions, so if anybody needs anything I'll still be here.

Ahem... I have a finished cooperation by us still on my computer... Libya... It's been finished for almost a year now, but, well, I've been lazy, so haven't uploaded it yet :mischief:

Oh, yes... that. D'you still need diplomusic for that? I forgot about that. :mischief:
