Haven't been able to play much for the past week. Here's my latest update:
Germany - v 1.9 - Sid - Week 20, 1941
As usual, a lot of things have happened. Brazil has conquered all of Peru except Chiclayo. Japan has razed Vladivostok, the city of Borneo, and a few African cities. Japan lost Fakfak (on New Guinea) to Britain, but took back Labuan on Borneo. The Turks conquered Thessaloniki from the Greeks, and made peace with them. And the week after that, I declared war on them both.
My second attempt to take Kashmir failed, despite the presence of the Luftwaffe. Because of my war against the Turks I decided to postpone a third attack, and concentrate on some other fronts. In Siberia a force of some 30 infantry divisions and a few panzers are destroying the remains of the Soviet union. Yakutsk conquered. New Soviet capital Ayan. Only 8 Soviet cities remains. The Japanese remains as inactive as ever on this front. A second force (consisting of 15 infantry divisions) is currently marching across the deserts of western China (I hope they brought water-bottles with them
) to attack Urumtsi, and other Chinese cities. As soon as the Soviets are eliminated I'm going to send them reinforcements to wipe out those troublesome mountain-cities (since the Japanese are obviously unwilling to do so).
I have begun mass-producing my new panzer: IIIg. I'm falling behind in the tech devolopment, but once I'm in full control of all of Russia I hope to catch up with the others.
I used the IIIg in my invasion of Yugoslavia, and the panzers were much needed there. The Yugoslavians had a considerable force of some 40 infantry divisions and 10 tank divisions. It took me two weeks to conquer the city. Yugoslavia eliminated.
Athens taken with a much smaller effort, the Greeks and the Turks had really exhausted each other. Only Crete remains, but my spies tell me that there is 6 infantry divisions and 5 tanks left, so it's not going to be an easy conquest. I guess Crete has to wait until Luftwaffe is finished with Turkey. Erzurum taken, currently Ankara is being under siege, but it's going to take a while to destroy the fortress there.
In the Atlantic the war is only going so-so. The Allies have decided to keep on attacking me. The Americans sent out lots of destroyer flotillas, and there was some nasty fighting, and I had to pull back the remaining u-boats from the American east-coast. It would be so much easier if I had a nearby base where my u-boats could be repaired. The French keep harrassing my u-boats outside Spain, so I had to pull them back too. It's very hard to fight destroyer flotillas when they are close to friendly ports. It's only in the Caribbean where there have been no attacks on my u-boats. I'm thinking of sending them north of Cuba to regain control of those waters. A handful of u-boats have left the southern Atlantic, and entered the Indian Ocean. I'm mainly going to use them as scouts to see what both the Americans and the Japanese are up to in the Pacific. Thanks to the Japanese capture of the Suez canal my presence in that part of the world will remain low.
An odd thing just happened after I declared war on Greece. The Yugoslavian fleet had remained on the same spot since the start of the game, but suddenly they appeared near the coast west of Brest! I couldn't believe my eyes. They had been transported there somehow. I'm in control of Gibraltar, and I should have spotted them if they moved there. And this happened before I declared war on Yugoslavia.
Anyway, I declared war on Yugoslavia on the same turn their fleet showed up there, and they landed in the middle of my u-boat fleet, so the Yugoslavian ships didn't last very long.
