I love not having to have the disc in the drive, that's worth the occasional pain of my connection glitching. Long term, I end up playing games that don't need a disk, Steam, Stardock, whatever. Civ5 is my 1st and so far only steam game.

I like building the pyramids and then driving for banking. Representation/Vassalage/CasteSystem/Merchantilsm/Organised Religion really plays into Liz(a fluke discovery) and can be achieved reaonably early. I also like coasts so don't cottage much, which again plays into Liz.

I got this on starting the game, after patching, so I'm back to 1.09 P3/733 256M Geforce4 Ti4200/128 running ME with .NET 1.1 SP1 So long as I stick to small maps I have no problems.

I had an Amiga 500 and got a PC to play Civ. Then I discovered the amiga version had just been released and that was all any shop had. Aaaaagh!. Got CivII but never finished a game. Never played CivIII. My PIII/733(ME) copes amazingly well, especially post patch. Limits me to small maps so...
