    How I solved CTDs

You asking me? I have a gig of ram, 700+ megs of which are free before I load Civ4. (I reboot via selective startup). Also a 128 meg video card.

    How I solved CTDs

You just described *exactly* the problems I'm having. The map de-textures, runs a turn or two then changes to a lower screen size and CTD.

    How to view autoexploring units?

That's the first thing I tried. Even turned it off, tested it, turned it back on and tested it again. Does the camera center on auto-moving units for anyone, I wonder?

    How to view autoexploring units?

Myself as well. Sometimes the only way I can find an explorer or ship I've set to autoexplore is by looking for the clear spot on the mini-map. There must be a way to change this.. maybe in the config or something?

    Are prices going to drop?

You'll need to patch the game, unless you buy a "gold" edition in the distant future or install an expansion pack. The game won't likely drop in price until at least after Christmas.

    How to view autoexploring units?

I'm sorry if this has been asked before but the search is offline and it's a quick question: When my units are set to autoexplore, the game no longer centers the map on them during my turn so I can watch them moving around the map. The same is true when one of my units is moving a long...

Double your Framerate for NVIDIA cards

Have you tried playing with your nvidia drivers? That's what seems to have fixed my problems with sluggish play and frequent CTD's.

Double your Framerate for NVIDIA cards

Umm, not sure - this is the first time I'm using the program. I saw no change at all in the world map when I moved the slider over.

Double your Framerate for NVIDIA cards

Click on the direct x tab at the top, then scroll down the window a bit. It doesn't look like the window scrolls, but you'll notice the scroll bars on the right side. It does a sort of "scroll by page" thing instead of smooth scrolling.

    Game suddenly crashes

I have XP Pro and a gig of ram as well. I just retired my game in 17something without a crash. I'm going to reboot and start a new game.. we'll see how that goes.

Double your Framerate for NVIDIA cards

Don't know - I don't have FRAPs installed. Maybe I missed it but does Civ4 have a built-in FPS counter?

    Game suddenly crashes

This map I'm currently playing on seems as good a stress test as anything. Huge map, year 1682AD, 11 Civs alive, a few minor wars going on but everyone seems to be scrambling toward a recently discovered continent now that Galleons have been researched. The main continent doesn't have a...

    Game suddenly crashes

I might have a bit of a tip here - at least it's worth trying for you GeForce folks. I rolled back my driver from the most current to the second most current, and the game has run without a crash for over 2 hours now, when before it was crashed every 3 turns or so. I made no other changes...

    Game suddenly crashes

I'm having the same problem with random crashes to desktop. Most of the time it happens when I'm randomly clicking on various parts of the globe, in the middle to late stages of a game. Celeron 2.0, 1 gig ram, geforce 128 meg agp, latest drivers, no viruses/spyware.

I have this EXACT same problem.
