Know well what leads you forward and what holds you back

Hi, soon-to-be-a-deity-player, I think theses 7 principles are pretty nice. I'd change the number 6 just to : "Focus ! Choose a long-term feasible objective, and do whatever it takes to get it. Don't just : "Oh, I could build the Parthenon, that could fit well in my appartment" or "Oh ! I...

    Bombardment and Siege Weps

A good war is a short war. Although Sun Tzu didn't state this in these terms (by the way he didn't speak english), that's how you should think when planning your war. Minimizing your losses during each battle is certainly important, but you should consider that the AI builds units while you're...

Holkan Smokem time - Emperor epic game.

Ha ha, I'm with you, my friend ! Father and civ addict ! You should consider the game of go as well. Pretty time consuming, and can be played at home while the kids have a little rest.

    Suryavarman of the Maya

The UB rocks ? I rarely build aqueducts (they are damn expensive, and its +2 :health: is not needed before the industrial era). Yep, the Cothon is nice. But I can assure you that on higher levels, you'll need the holkan and the Ball court much more than the cothon or the terrace.

    Suryavarman of the Maya

    I got hunting+mining, if i remember correctly

    Holk Smash!

Ha ha ! Reminds me of my last attempt as the mayans on Deity. I had noticed my neighbour didn't have bronze and I had a good start, so I decided to rush him with holkans. By the time I could build 8 holkans, my neighbour had researched Iron working and built a bunch of axemen :) Deity is insane.

    Suryavarman of the Maya

Let me suggest an interesting unrestricted leader combo that - after trying it recently on a Deity game - I consider very good : Suryavarman of the Maya I consider Expansive + Creative to be the best combo at high levels. Why ? Because Deity is all about fast early expansion and surviving...

Things you thought when you were a noob

I didn't know what to do if : - I didn't start with a gold mine - I didn't have flood plains all around (I was a cottage fan) - I could not build the Pyramids (for the +3 happiness boost - I thought that this +3 beakers was really unimportant) - I liked to found religions and did my best...

Using Hardy Pioneers versus Regular Pioneers

I wonder if improving the land is even worth it. As a civ player, I dislike working unimproved tiles, so in my first game of Colonization, I prioritized pioneers. But it takes such a long time to improve the land ! (like 20 turns to chop a forest for a non-hardy pioneer on Epic speed). In civ...

    The Quest for Immortality

Aaaah someone was faster than me.

    The Quest for Immortality

I would consider settling on the plains hill 1N, for the +1:hammers: and the river. Based on what I see here, you lack food. You should move the warrior 1SW to see if you'd miss any food resource in the south if you moved as I advised. The strategy for this game should be straightforward...

    Beeline to samurais

My last game was a fractal game which looked like an archipelago game, so the GLH was a no brainer. By the way, I was on an island, hence with few barbarians, had no close neighbour to rush, so I decided to run a good economy and late-rush my neighbours with the samourais...

    Beeline to samurais

Well at immortal level, the oracle is quite a gambit. Having to research up to Priesthood means you have to bypass important worker techs. And since the Oracle is usually built around 1500 BC, you don't get very impressive techs with it... (although I recently played a game with the Inca where I...

    What settings do you put?

There's something I don't understand here. In my games (when I set up a Custom game), I leave the AIs at Noble level which I thought was the standard. When I do that, the game clearly looks like a normal Immortal game (I'm setting my own level at Immortal). It appears to me that the...

Need to Practice Espionage and Corporations

You don't need espionnage neither corporations to win at immortal. There are certainly many other relevant aspects of the game you need to work on to improve.
