January 2024 Challenge Robot Revolution DISCUSSION THREAD

A rare time a biplane is useful for something other than Era Score or upgrading to a better air unit. Also the first time I've actually used the Deploy action.

    Iron keeps vanishing!

Just experienced this myself last game. I was trying to build up iron to upgrade a Quadrireme and my stockpiles kept depleting as queued Warriors got automatically switched to Swordsmen But that's exactly what I wanted to do, dammit ;)

Is there a point to the AI GPT demands...

It prevents them from declaring war for 30 turns. Slightly useful if you are being threatened by a more powerful nearby AI, and need time to build up your defenses or military (or at least that's how it worked in earlier versions!)

What single thing annoys you most about Civ VI?

To prove the timeout theory, could we have two different people load the same savegame, one on a fast computer and one on a slow computer, and see if the computer picks the same next 10 moves? By the way, I think it would be hard to attribute the differences to a timeout - I would more likely...

    Protecting City States

It would be great if "make peace with ..." was one of the menu of trade options (which would make it also eligible for the Demand options) I recall it was available in Civ V (or was it Civ IV?) Maybe the AI is too stupid to value that request property, and it's too easy to abuse?

Great job guys! Thanks for the detailed analysis and illustrative examples.

    War-Mongering Madness

I had a huge "we made a demand" penalty recently, in a game where everyone hated me and they were making demands of me. Despite accepting every demand, I racked up a -80 "we made a demand of them" diplo malus I think there's some bug where if an AI makes a demand of you, that gets logged as you...

[R&F] Arrow keys scroll map in wrong direction, or not at all

I've had the "map scrolls forever" problem since Civ V :mischief:. I think there's some bug in the code that got inherited from V to VI. I can usually eventually stop the endless map scrolling by pressing the arrow keys again, in some random way that fixes things. I can't reproduce it and...

[R&F] Oxford doesn't grant free technologies

I wonder if it's this reported issue where the technologies actually are granted, but the pop-up doesn't show. https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/1-0-0-167-oxford-university.620516/ I don't think I got the two techs, but maybe it happened and I didn't notice - sadly I'm too lazy to reload...

[R&F] Oxford doesn't grant free technologies

I've built Oxford twice in the past 5 games, and it hasn't granted any technologies at all Is there a criterion that I'm missing? Version 1.0.0.262 (362541)

    Introduce Ourselves

Or what? You'll culturally flip me? :D Just kidding, I was 100% not serious about my comment. I just found it very interesting that so many respondents were peaceful builders Interesting insight - with your background and career that's a very useful perspective. Moddability is almost a...

    Introduce Ourselves

40something mechanical engineer from Canada. First got into the game when I found Civ III in the discount bin in the 2000s. It's a good thing, too - if I had discovered Civ in university I probably wouldn't have graduated. I find I only play the latest Civ and get good enough to win reliably at...

    LOS Question

I thought I was the only one who had heard of (or read) that series by Mick Farren! You're obviously older than you look in your profile pic, ha ha

    LOS Question

Can you help me understand why the city can see those white-marked tileswhile the settler cannot? I would have thought the settler was already "standing on the hill" on that tile - but the jungle on that tile reduces visibility? The mechanics are really bizarre and I'm glad you're digging into it

What type of Casus Belli is a Joint War?

Thanks! I must have missed that UI element. Nice to see this flexibility. Until now, to reduce warmongering penalties, I had been declaring war using a casus belli, then asking the AI to join in
