    Keeping statistics

In the actual latin (not counting the fact the number's in arabic), why would it matter whether the number came first or last since placement isn't as important to meaning as it is in english?

    When do you build factories?

I can't remember where, but I remember someone calculating the variables as an algebraic exercise and coming up with 8 shields as the break even point comparing the inceased shields to the gold production capitlized for some time out. That said, 10 is a nice number, unless there are...

    no more toilets

You could always think of selling off of the water works and sewers as munincipal privatization... (civ2 more like real life every day)

    Useless units

That's interesting, dark. I always thought the sea battles, even when outnumbered were always favorable to the humans. The ai doesn't even come close to allowing mutual support between ships. Therefore, by always buddying up like ships in groups of two or more, one can almost always ensure that...

    Peace is important

I think sun tzu's doctrine should be altered to "fight only the wars your strategy requires you to." If one is a conquest type, strategy requires taking cities to win, any effort in this direction helps your goals. If the opponent is bigger, you just want to start the war in such a manner...

    Useless units

Kind of funny how one has to add units to protect a BB. I guess it's just like a carrier task force where you have an ungodly punch, but you have to pay through the nose to protect such a concentrated target.

    Drop a Civ from Democracy

I've forced the ai to switch to fundy by taking away all of his shield squares which seems to make him take the appropriate choice of going to fundy, thereby removing maintanance costs and saving the units from disbanding. However, sometimes he doesn't bite.

    Bad games and lessons learned

I realize a lot of the discoveries and optimizations of civ game play have come from experimentation and "code cracking" type stuff embodied in such things as OEDO, and number crunching trade routes, but as a firm believer in "experience is the best teacher", I've always kind of wondered what...

    D-day landings

Wouldn't building a city early leave one at the tender mercies of a strong AI? I would hate to risk him grabbing some juicy tech from a partially secured city. While it requires 2 engineers , I still prefer forts mopre often. Although, giving it some thought, if I had a chance to link...

    war on many fronts...

Don't forget island hopping. As the AI -even at large sizes- is rather inept tactically, if you can get some local control of the sea lanes, their units are functionaly dislocated from each other on islands. This means you can focus your limited resources at those points, take over two or...

    AI executes Combined Arms Assault!!

Although it hurts when the AI attacks correctly, I always find myself more pleased afterwords as it redirects my energies, and is rather satisfying in some sort of masochistic way in the later stages in the game. More fun to beat a worthy opponent I guess (actually, sometimes I'll gift a...

    Civilization Attitudes?

tip 1 Have some nukes of your own. The AI's attitude toward you is partly a reflection of your military power. Otherwise, give him stuff. However, the AI seems to have a short memory for gifting. If your power is "supreme" you will have the AI attacking you a lot. This is to be...

How to conquer a superior civ

You were right to try to get them to change governments, sethos. But rather than build 600 vet spies, it would heave been easier to look at one of their cities that only produced a couple of shields, take enough units to cover those spots, plus a couple to cover the rail line to that city...

Love it or hate it: The Great Library

I would take marco's over GL in almost any situation. The only time it doesn't benefit you as much is when you are exceedingly unpopular and no one wants to trade. Usually, this isn't a horrible problem in deity early in the game since the AI seems to start faster. Oh, and the maps are priceless...

    Submarine Warfare

My start was poor and I lost a lot of early wonders, and only got a couple rennaisance ones. I was also a little afraid to fight the Carth's until I got mobile war and automobile because of his wonders. You do a lot better with a couple of special squares early than being surrounded by grass and...
