I have recently purchased Civ5, latest edition. It worked fine for the first 5hours or so. Then when i reloaded my game, black lines started appearing across the screen. The game still works but the screen hexs on the screen move between normal colours and black line pixallated whenever you drag...

Sounds pretty good to me. You could beeline Civil Service/Machinery and get the jump on a weak teching civ. Also with your map choice/civ choice and leader traits the Colossus would be valuable. Taking into account that you will have to defend against more aggressive AI.
Relax, relax, everyone gets a little bias/over the top when talking about proposed civs from their homeland. :) Plus I'm no civ guru just chucking something out there. In reflection that UB is rediculous. :lol: However i do think that a Maori Civ has some merit. Pacific Islanders seems so...

The Maori of New Zealand. Pionneers of trench warfare. Well fortified and established civilisation. Stronger than any other Polynesian civ. As they contolled large land mass and had a well drilled and adaptive military. Not to mention a sizy poulation pre-european contact.
