If the combat works like I've read it does, I'll simply start with a warrior at 1.1.1 and base everything on that, changing attack/defense numbers until they feel right.

I think getting rid of firepower was an incredibly bad decision -- to fix it, I'm going to have to rescale attack & defense on every unit in the game.

Even with animations off, the graphics code seems to be a performance hog. I've got a 1.2 ghz Tbird, 64 meg vid card, half gig of RAM and the screen scroll is jerky.
The gameplay seems pretty decent (other than the aforementioned corruption problems) though.
