Since Steam and Good Old Games put this on sale this summer, it is a lot of fun revisiting Railroads! on modern systems. Bought it again on gog.com and running on my win 10 and win 11 systems. Even my old custom maps are working. Kewl
Patronage lately I've only been selecting the +20 friendly status with all civs, and leaving the rest alone for ideologies. Exploration I only completed one time for the achievement.
I only annex when I can afford to purchase a courthouse.

Liberating City States is great.
Liberating other capitals, not so much. Puppet them until resistance is through and you can afford them, or you will take the happiness hit.
Was it Civ II or Civ III that had colonies?
I have found that building a fortress on the edge of your territory is a good way of reaching that resource that is just out of reach, without resorting to settling a whole new city.
Gee, I've only sold the buildings in captured cities that I did not want to maintain, after buying a courthouse in them, going from puppet to annexed. What other minutia am I missing?
