Another late-game camp I found. I wonder how high-tech they can actually get.
Although they'd probably just sit at home polishing the GDR's paintwork anyway...
I've yet to win a time victory, but I do have a time defeat listed in my Hall of Fame.
I think my highest score is still from the Tutorial game (which was actually quite long because I was messing around).
Large/Earth/Immortal, Siam declaring war on me a few turns after pulling out of our war against Greece.
Although I did think their preceding comments about me being a warmonger were a bit much, considering they invited me to join the Greek war in the first place...
Have you tried launching it by double-clicking the actual exe file? Also, check the game folder and in Event Viewer for any crash logs.
My Steam install is on drive E and I haven't had any issues with it.
I've been conquered by the AI on a huge Archipelago map - it was on Deity though, and it took a long time for them to grind me down (especially considering the relative numbers of units & tech levels).

Late-game on huge maps (especially on higher difficulties), it's a few minutes - my PC is somewhat low spec though (Q6600, GTX 285).
I've even had slow-down in early turns on tiny Deity maps, not sure what's causing that (presumably not workers since there are so few at that point!).
Another vote for GalCiv2 here - it's pretty old now, but it's aged well :).
Imperium Galactica 2 is worth a look as well, although the 'one enormous fleet' AI can limit the replayability.
