    GOTM 103 Spoiler

Tried this as an OCC using the original starting location. 4 specials, but no rivers seemed like a possibility, but 3 and some rivers would have been much better with hindsight. Game stated okay, but a little slow due to lack of neighbours, so went for MP to enable diplomacy. Things picked up...

    Gotm 103

After an almost 6 year absence, I've picked up Civ2 again this month and thought I ought to have another attempt at a GOTM. This one seemed like a good one to try another OCC - but really didn't work out the way I'd hoped. Better luck next time maybe...

    Gotm 35

I'm afraid my excuse was really the holiday season. I started (badly) and only made very slow progress due to the large map. I liked the difficult start-up though - definitely challenging. Keep up the good work DoM. I'll try to find time for GOTM36.

    GOTM 34 Spoiler

Finally managed another record (for me) early landing knocking over 700 years off my previous best (GOTM33) :D . These games really improve your technique. I'm sure I'll soon be about half as good as you regulars... BTW, how do you find out the number of turns for entering into the GOTM...

Brand New Grandma to this type of game. Help, Please?

The "black shield" is waste due to corruption (shown in a similar way to the trade waste from corruption). This can be minimised by adding a courthouse or changing to a "better" government type (or moving your capital closer) and eliminated by either moving the palace to this city (not...

    Civ 2.42 Patch

What features/bugs does the version 2.42 patch amend/solve? I can't seem to find a list in the downloads section (and the search facility isn't working). I am currently running an older version and would like to know what the changes are going to be before I upgrade.

Hoover Dam is great for anti-pollution as well as production. Can't really beat it.

    Do you finish games?

Rarely. The early game is the quickest part - and middle age tech race great fun. Once your civ is far ahead in tech, however, the micormanagement of all your cities becomes a little tedious and the game turns take so long. GOTMs are good for giving you a reason to finish and OCCs are better...

What Was Your Biggest Trade Pay-off?

Approx 1500 in current GOTM but I've only just discovered ship chains and a proper SSC. Hope to beat this in the next game.

    GOTM 33 Spoiler

Sounds pretty good OnS. I've finished with my earliest ever AC landing (never beaten 20th century before) but it's nowhere close to the dates you guys are talking about. Once my ship was launched I tried to take the AI cities with wonders to improve my score. Didn't manage to get them all...

Hall of Fame and Global Ranking

No pressure DoM, but is there a reason why the Hall of Fame and Global Rankings have not been updated for a while? Time pressure probably. Is it intended to update them again soon? Does anyone else wish to see these features maintained?

    GOTM 33 Spoiler

This is certainly an interstingly constructed GOTM and definitely rather tricky. Congratulations must go to DoM for however much input was required to generate the map and ("random..."?) starting locations . It surely is no coincidence that the Celts, being the strongest other civ, are as far...

    GOTM 33 Spoiler

I thought the whole point was that you could only try the game on your first attempt...? There's certainly many things I would have changed with hindsight - but that's tough :( I'll have to learn from the mistakes for the next game...

    Favorite Wonder -Ancient

But Pyramids can compound unhappiness problems at higher levels especially early on. Much better to give your SSC a great boost with Colossus and if you delay Flight as much as you can, it's effects last a substantial time (and can be used conjuntively with Superhighways too!)

    Civ2 or Civ3

Civ 1 was a great game with a few annoying aspects (phalanxes against battleships springs to mind). Civ 2 is just fantastic - there's not really anything to fault. I tried Civ 3 and (although liking the cultural boundaries idea) decided it's just too different for an old Civ 2 dog to adapt...
