I see, thanks very much. I had checked the civilopedia but hadn't noticed a reference to fission. I did read the factual history of Uranium though and needing fission to use uranium is consistant with that.

I must be doing something wrong, I can't seem to resource uranium. I have in two cities, have mined and railed both but it doesn't show in the resources of my cities - meaning I can't build the units it enables. Is there a simple explanation? Be grateful for any help, thanks.

Thanks very much for clearing that up. What I meant by not spreading the religion was that if I needed to have state religion in order to gain the income then it wouldn't be worth building the missionaries as I'm intending to stick with free religion. Thanks again

Thanks again to all who replied. I have now wiped out the offending civilization, which made the horrendous error of coming out of the second city (not the one I was intending to storm first) to attack one of my cats. He killed the cat but my other units got him. I then attacked city two...

Thanks to you all for taking the time to answer, it's a steep learning curve! I actually am more advanced than my opponent but have been avoiding the techs he has, thinking I could nick them by wiping him - macemen coming up. The horse archers a good idea too.
