I agree that England's big bonus is situational, but personally I love Sun Never Sets. It stacks with the Great Lighthouse and Commerce's Naval Tradition. So even triremes have 8 moves per turn, with a +2 sight.
It's be even more fun if the danged AI would build up decent navies by the time...
Is there any particular reason SDI (or whatever it was in previous versions that defended against nukes) was removed from the game?
On smaller maps saying "don't build cities in their range" isn't really much help. I don't mind overwhelming military units, but there should be some kind of...
^ This. Ever since I've started playing this series, I need elbow room. If another civ (especially an aggressive one) starts right on top of me, I'll restart immediately.
I rarely restart because of bad terrain.
I've been playing archipelago and small continent maps. I've found that AI has little interest in building or maintaining any kind of navy.
My last game every major civ and almost all citystates declared war on me. But they never showed up on my shores. No navies, no embarked units.
This is...
I've wondered about this too. I've started standard and large earth maps as England and been placed in the center of Europe/Asia (basically, where Moscow is in the real world). On these maps, that's about as far as an ocean as you can get.
Yes. It's a superficial thing, but I found France's pink in Civ3 (or 4?) hard to look at and with 5, China's green & white color scheme is really ugly.
I recently played a small earth map where literally every CS in the game had a hit out on Stockholm. England expands, absorbs Stockholm and boom! 12 city states are now their ally.
It would make more sense if only militaristic city states put out contracts (and then gave you units to get the...
Me: Babylon on Prince, large "Small Continents" map.
I'm still working my way up the difficulty levels and getting used to the game. This last time, I did pretty well and I was in line to get a science victory but ...
I overlooked the fact that Siam had so many CS allies. UN vote comes...
Cool, thanks very much for the info.
@Optional: You're exactly right. I haven't played a Civ game in a long time, and I find myself falling back on on strats from previous versions. I went into Civ5 playing the money game and building as many economic/+gold buildings as I could without really...
NC = "National College Start."
You put off expanding at first in order to research writing, build a library, and then build the National College mini-wonder.
Doing this gives you a +50% science boost at the start of the game which is an enormous advantage.
The trade off is that it...
Do the Great Person's specific building (like the scientist's academy) need to be worked within a city radius to get their benefit? Or can it just exist somewhere within your borders?
I'm not wild about replacing :c5food: and :c5production: with a flat :c5science:. What's the strat for using...
Can the AI pledge protection without being an ally?
The diplo screen shows city-state alliances, as do that city-state's home screen (when you click on em).
AFAIK, you can't see the reverse, ie: show me everyone that England is allied with right now. The only way to get that information is to...
try contacting the govenor (mouse over city, right click) and having them 'manage citizen moods' for all your cities. This will keep them from rioting in the short term, but you'll still need to build those happiness producing enhancements + wonders. otherwise, the governor will have to produce...
