    A Naval Issue

The point is, IMHO, to emphasize that troops being transported by sea are just that, troops being transported. They don't have any strength whatsoever, they need to be protected / escorted. The caravel scenario seems an bit "unrealistic", but for gameplay's sake I'd leave it be. Your...

Do roads going through AI's territory create Trade Routes?

I have 2 cities separated from my main territory by AI's territory (both a civilization and a City State). It's Pangea, so I can't build harbors in them. If I connect them to one of my "main" cities by roads, these roads will have to be going through AI's territory. I couldn't find the...

    Boredom with CIV5 demystified

Thank you :) That's the first time I've seen someone say what I've been feeling all along (and hoping I'm not mistaken). All the fundamental game mechanics (those that are different / new than Civ IV) - hexes, 1UPT, strategic resource system, even global happiness - seem to be well thought out...

Patch Update by Greg @ 2K

Great changes, it seems that only 2 things/issues that have been reported by the community a lot haven't been touched so far: 1) Bonus resource yields 2) Building costs Ad. 1) With the new maritime bonus nerf the tile yield balance seems to be more OK now (Trading Post spamming will be...

Religion as a game concept - good or bad?

I voted Other, here's the explanation. Religion could definitely be in the game but not the way it was implemented in Civ IV. Why? Religion has always been a huge factor in civilizations' history, often THE major factor. If "culture" is in, then "religion" should be in too (at this point I am...

What are you running Civ V on and how well does it work?

E8200 @ 3,4 GHz, 4850 512mb, 4 GB RAM, Win 7 64-bit. DX 10/11 mode, 1920 x 1200, everything on High, MSAA x4. Runs great. Have to try bigger map sizes, though. I think it runs smoother that Civ4 sometimes does (maybe it's better optimized for 64-bit?) One issue is that I can't have Firefox...

So what's up with the super ugly rivers?

I'm no graphics expert, but I believe that if you look closely (at the screenshot and in-game) you can see the actual coastline _below_ the river delta (and in-game you can see the ocean's ebb (tides) animate below the delta). It's like they just crudely put the river delta graphics over the...

The maritime aspect of Civ V is AMAZING

Yes and yes! Yes!! No more clunky transports. Not really, because: Which means that invading across water takes _protection_ (and there's no mountains to hide behind, just you, them and the art of convoy-building :p), otherwise your troops are going to be wiped out looooong before they can...

Embarked Songhai Worker has Strength of 500

and my caravel shooting at it would do only 4 damage (part of the screenshot is cut but you can see a green 4). Incidentally, in the combat box (below [red 0]: Approx DMG Inflicted) the Worker's strength is listed as 5. I thought embarked units have 0 strength and are automatically...

Anyone else think that AI has been toned down for the release?

I remember Battle Isle pretty well (Battle Isle 2 is one of my all-time favorite games and I'd still love to play it even now) - it was quite a challenging game, if not a very difficult one (at least for me). I usually got the feeling that I am seriously outgunned in the beginning, and the first...

Anyone else think that AI has been toned down for the release?

EDIT: Guardian_PL - what you quote from Azazell's experience makes me feel we're playing two different games - my AI isn't even remotely threatening :( Sorry, double post

Anyone else think that AI has been toned down for the release?

I seriously hope this is some sort of a misunderstanding, I can't believe they would release a game with crippled AI to keep dim-witted 10-year-olds playing. I was actually kind of scared by the IGN (and now Gamespot too) reviews saying, that the AI overly aggressive. But if AI can't even...

    AI wonderspam (=conquer me) mode

I've encountered similar behavior - the Ottomans chose not to expand at all and sticked with only their capital till I captured it around turn 150 or so (standard speed). There was free land excellent for at least two additional cities right next to Istambul (with plenty of resources, too) - why...

Help me figure out why Civ V doesn't cause "one more turn" syndrome

The 1 more turn feeling is definitely there for me. Proof? I repeatedly find myself clicking "next turn" instead of getting up and walking _3 meters_ to my fridge to get another beer, while my current beer is long gone. And that happens really almost every time I finish one!! I love the new...

    Some people never learn...

I love the graphics (and the roads too), but rivers are just unacceptable. It's a joke, really, especially the deltas. They look like work in progress at best, and that in an early stage of "work" and not with much "progress" yet. Come on!
