Another double bill and another buff recipient now - Himiko, High Shaman (or, culture Himiko).
Her leader ability is Miko of Amaterasu, which is a three-parter:
+2 Happiness per Age on Happiness and Diplomacy Buildings, doubled if a Building is both
+50% Production towards constructing...
I've only had one game with them so far and I don't think I was really set up to get the most out of them. On paper I think I see the vision, though I'm still not convinced they're a top tier civ. With a lot of floodplains and plenty of urban sprawl for lots of walls there's definitely potential...
Huh, I always do the red tree as my first on fleet commanders (aside from the green one that's the equivalent of initiative) but I've always just associated rushing the bottom with getting a commendation; I've never even paid attention to what it does. Splash damage is crazy strong. I knew fleet...
I think Hatshepsut is plenty strong enough post-buff, but as others have said, she's just not that interesting. The synergy with the Egypt->Songhai build is obvious and powerful; I just don't have that much to say about her because I don't her kit of basically all stat buffs very exciting.
The rest of Chola's kit is pretty whatever for me but the Kalam and the Ottru are fantastic. Naval warfare is pretty viable in 7, even just for carrying or supporting land invasions, and Chola are probably the best in the age at doing that (not to mention, exploration is probably the best time...
Next up is (aside from, arguably, Fritz), the first leader we've come to who's received a major buff since launch - Hatshepsut.
Her leader ability is God's Wife of Amun, which is a two-parter:
+1 Culture per Age for every unique Resource (previously was every imported resource)
+15% Production...
I've been back on a Minecraft kick, along with the usual BTD6 events and medal grinding. I have a big pile of games yet to be played sitting in my Steam library but I just keep coming back to the same handful...
I think 4 sounds about right for most games but this got me thinking about the theoretical minimum and I think it's 1 lol
- One codex from "One must write every day to improve" event
- One codex from writing ii event
- One codex from science CS bonus
- One codex from literacy
- One codex from...
She's one of the strongest leaders in the game imo. Possibly the strongest. +5 war support is just absurd. I've seen people say she can be a bit RNG/inconsistent because it relies on the AI declaring on you, but I've never had trouble just rejecting their endeavors, forward settling, etc. to get...
Didn't Civ I have Mao and Stalin? lol. I think the ideas about what makes a good or bad candidate for a leader (both from the devs and the playerbase/wider public) have shifted since then. For me personally, I think a good mix of iconic figures while also showcasing some nicher/historically...
Big fan of Assyria. Genghis is also very strong but definitely a case of a one-trick-pony so I'll probably only play him when I'm really feeling like all-out war.
Dai Viet feel a little muddled for me on paper but it might just be a case of needing to play around with them to get a feel for how...
I mean, sure. I was more just thinking along the lines of like, realistically I think switching is here to stay so within that context how could the issue of jarring transitions be mitigated in this regard?
(Fwiw I'm generally pro switching but I do think the perfect solution would just be a...
I think something that could help with this would be civs whose uniqueness flows into each other. Like, if there were an explo civ that had you achieve the culture path through conquest or something, so it felt like a natural next step from Assyria. Or maybe a military civ who had a special...
Now that we've had a chance to try out the shiny new toys, it's back to our regularly scheduled programming with Harriet Tubman.
Her leader ability is Combahee Raid, which is a three-parter:
+50% Influence towards initiating Espionage actions
Gain 5 War Support on all wars declared against you...
