I thought I'll try it without GW, as it is only monarch level, but then made the stupid mistake of not prioritizing Iron Works when I found no copper... So yeah, this did not end well. I gave up before 1AD.
Thx, both.
I remember there was an issue with the 37.5 rounding, but wasn't aware it happens with even multiples of that too. So I guess a whip with forge/OR gives 37 hammers per pop, regardless of the number of pop.
I had put 5 hammers into the 80-hammer Galleon, expecting I could do a 2-pop whip with forge bonus to get the 60*1.25 = 75 remaining hammers. But the whip button says I need 3 pop. I this some rounding issue or am I overlooking something silly? Yes, I was in slavery; could whip in other cities...
I have no experience in isolation games, so I tried a couple of them with Big_Small island maps (on Emperor) but I haven't really gotten the timings for Astro bulb/tech strategy right yet.
Seems to me that after worker techs and BW you have to go writing, then go priesthood to Oracle CoL, and...
Well, that was quite a long game! Domination victory in 1800 AD.
Alexander attacked me in early AD with a smal stack just when I started whipping cuirs, so I had to handle that first. Hannibal was plotting too; he was part of the Judiasm block, together with Alexander and Cyrus, and I was...
Somewhat related to this, Space elevator also has some unclear requirements on longitude/latitude? of its location. Can't be to far from the equator, but how far exactly is not very obvious; there is a thread about this on the forum I believe.
As I almost exclusively play as Hatshepsut, I have to try this GOTM. Not a deity player, so I do Contender class, which is supposed to be for those who feel comfortable at noble/prince. Not convinced that the extra settler+worker really make it that easy, but what the heck, I should be able to...
Note that hovering your mouse over a tile will tell you if it has access to fresh water. The tile south east from settler starting location is adjacent to water, but has no access to fresh water, which means it must be coastal. So no need to move the warrior there to spot :)
Soon after 1 AD I met the 2 remaining AIs, and they were also backwards. Until then I was a bit afraid they would have all the great land with gold mines and stuff, and perhap be ahead of me...
So I stopped expansion after my 13th city, then teched/bulbed my way into Military Tradition (800AD)...
Was feeling like playing a Prince-level game, so I gave this one a try.
I settled 1 north of the ice, so I could build lighthouse. It can be developed into a decent bureau cap, with 2 helper cities west and north east.
Quite some distance to nearest neighbors, and plenty of either green or...
Indeed it seems cavalry is not needed. Eliminated 5 AI by ~1250 AD, and invaded 3 more with 40-50 combat3+march cuirs. AIs still don't have CoL, alphabet, feudalism, engineering... Should have built a few more cuirs and just stop teching after engineering.
Edit: continued till 1305; only...
Yes, I went straight for cuirs; but still had to build quite some NC and other units for defense. Settled a town next to Sitting Bulls horses, and was lucky with huts popping a scout, agriculture and some more stuff.
Around 960 AD, 38 cuirs, just killed off Sitting Bull and am now attacking on...
Hm yes I described the probability of a single 5+ streak, which indeed isn't what we're looking for...
Turns out this is harder to compute than I thought. I used to be good at this stuff, 30 years ago...
