    Civ BE Day/Night Cycle

Haha! I can just imagine. Strobes indeed.

    Pact of Cooperation???

I figured there'd be a thread around on this. I had the same problem, figuring it meant something relatively benign but not being able to find info on it anywhere (and I had read the entire manual before playing and checked in-game for mention of it, too). Seems to be overlooked.

    Bad luck or bad planning?

Yeah, come to think of it, this happened to Kubla Kahn in another game I was playing (he was leading) and the stack of swordsmen walked right by one of my cities, within my border, and made a bee-line for him. This was likely the same thing, since I'm almost always leading in points early on...

    Bad luck or bad planning?

Sorry that this'll be vague on details, but I didn't expect it to happen so didn't keep a running tally. Thing is, I lost a game on lowly Warlord within 6 minutes because of a Barbarian uprising. A six-archer stack stormed my borders while I had a single worker, my capital had a population of...

Which Early unit for city defense?

I'll go with archers as my primary early defense (until longbow) with a spattering of axemen for border duty. I only go for specialized units (like spearmen) if I see the need. If you're including chariots and horse archers as early units, I typically use them for faster border duty. I defend...

    How to have permanent war

Yeah, I was looking forward to doing the same just yesterday when I realized that the civs would all be at war with me but not each other. Great if you want a tough time of it, but not terribly useful as an option. I'm surprised there isn't one available.

    "we have our reasons"

This is fascinating stuff. I got the gist of most of the comments, but didn't realize that they were far more involved than that. Thanks for all the info; it might just help my pathetic playing skills. ;)

Open Borders: advantage to potential enemies?

Have to say, whatever I was doing in my current game, it went wrong...fast. I went from peace with everyone to war with the entire world in one turn. Even friendly civs came after me. While I was able to calm everyone down eventually, I lost half my cities and gained all but one back. Suffice to...

Open Borders: advantage to potential enemies?

Interesting. That was my first inclination, too (to leave borders closed). I tried opening my borders in my current game and while it seemed to calm the war-mongering a bit, it did lead to me dropping into the middle of the pack in terms of overall points eventually. I'll have to keep playing...

Open Borders: advantage to potential enemies?

I've a quick/easy question for experts out there: does the AI get any benefit from Open Borders with my civ in terms of gaining a view of what I'm doing? Let me explain: there's a civ that often goes to war with me. At some point between wars, they ask for Open Borders. If I give them Open...

    Alarms for the Addicted

Yep. Anytime I play I set the in-game alarm (and if I forget I'll be in trouble). Time seems to whip on by.

    Why no "Religious" victory?

I've seen the computer use missionaries plenty of times. Perhaps you are just missing them being used? Do you have enemy or friendly moves not being shown?

    assist me with OCP

Might want to take the question...er...elsewhere. Not really Civ4-related. :crazyeye: There's a couple down yonder in the Colosseum that might fit.

Don't you think that we need another patch to fix some more bugs?

I doubt there'll be another patch before the expansion arrives. Best to make your issues known to Firaxis, if they aren't already aware and hope that something comes your way.

Which is your favourite period to play in Civ4?

It was either the "Ancient Age" (Stone Age) or the "Classical Age" for me, but I decided to go with the Classical. I love the early expansion phase but there's not a lot of variety in that period so the next step up is when I find it more enjoyable. Oddly enough, when I completed that poll by...
