After some looking it seems MANY players have this problem - with no solution in sight. I've even seen some administrators saying they'll "look into it" never to reply again. BTW, Firaxis's Railroads! apparently gives the same problem - a solution would help many players get going...

I see many players have/had the following problem, but none of their solutions work for me. When trying to apply patch3.13 to BTS (or 2.13 to Warlords for that matter) I get:

I think the battles now are so long because they occur one after the other. Most battles (for me anyway) occur on one concentrated front and making the units attack consecutively takes time and gets boring to the extent that some people turn off the animation.
I say: rather do a big battle...

Hexagonal map grid: Hexagons model the sphere of influence of a city better than a square. Travel is also more realistic: In Civ3 the diagonal distances are weighted as 1.5 and the orthogonal ones as one. Moving orthogonally still costs a single movement point...
