Ah that makes sense. Also I was trying to say if you settle on that grasslands, you won't be able to build a farm there which could produce a lot of food down the line. By settling on the hill you get extra defense for the city. I just didn't word it well :)
Why would it be better to take the hill (directly east of the warrior, right?) instead of settle in place. So you can build a farm on the grassland and get more defense from the hill?
The BtS info center says Sid's Sushi only gives culture, no food bonus, was that changed in a patch or an error on the info center?

After reading this post, I started messing around with my Hardware Acceleration settings (Desktop Properties>Settings>Advanced, then click the Troubleshooting tab) and found I had hardware accel turned down two notches, to fix some quicktime bug I think. In any case I ramped acceleration all the...
I just installed Beyond the Sword, and the latest nVidia drivers, but the cursor in all the menu and game screens is clipping, disappearing when I stop the mouse, then appearing/disappearing rapidly as I move the mouse. Changing resolution in the graphics options doesn't seem to fix the problem...
I've read various threads about how much research costs when you are on a team with another player, some people saying it costs 50% more to research than if you were alone.
Does anyone know if that is true? I can't find it referenced anywhere to be sure, also it seems like a team would still...
I was just going to install the BetterAI mod and was curious if it will be active in multiplayer games. That got me thinking about how the AI worked in multiplayer in general, is it all controlled by whichever computer is hosting the game?
What do you pefer to be the first units you turn out now, then? A couple warriors/uniques for early war? When would you turn out your first worker, when you research agriculture or something? Is the first settler at population 3 a good strat still? Thanks for your tips!
Bombardment attack value has become Collateral damage
Now you can either bombard a city with artillery, or attack with the artillery and cause collateral damage (with the proper promotions), but not both. It seems Firaxis has simply stopped artillery from getting 2 attacks for the price of 1...
Probably not what you were looking for, but if you play a One City Challenge game (in the custom game option), Globe Theater is perhaps the most important wonder you can get, as it will make every citizen in your single city happy :)
Don't have to worry about getting resources or constructing...
Playing with tech trading turned off is probably like playing every game at warlord level :) Without the AI trading between themselves you will probably find you rush out ahead in research if you stay on the same difficulty. No-tech trading seems to amount to a simple handicap on the AI. Might...
I believe it is vassalage (+2xp) theocracy (+2xp) heroic epic (+100% military production speed) barracks (+4xp) west point (+4xp) pentagon (+2xp) = 14xp, totaling three promotions, and 3 xp away from that 4th promo, in addition to Combat I if you are an Aggressive civ.
Culled from many forum threads and my own experiences, this is one strategy for creating a city/government to produce powerful military units quickly.
City Placement and Improvements
Grassland with 6 or so farms (creates surplus food so hill tiles can be worked)
Plenty of hills to mine...
