They should really rework the workshop

Well, that's problem with State Property rather than with workshops. I think workshop is an ok improvement as is but agree that State Property is clearly overpowered and in most situations a no-brainer. Good point about snowy cities, but these cities are rarely worth trouble to make them grow...

They should really rework the workshop

It hasn't really, workshops can work both ways (with or without State Property). It's just that they do have nice synergy bonus which should be mentioned when discussing usefulness of this improvement.

They should really rework the workshop

Also, remember that they work beautifully with State Property civic. They are allright I think. They work best in late game (State Property + Guilds + Chemistry), sure, but they are designed just for that; immediate production boost can be very valuable for cities on flatlands, workshops can...

    A New Unit Upgrade System

Nice idea and certainly worth trying in mods. I assume both overall strength increase for all units and continuous small tech promotions apply (if only the second one was in effect it would be in fact easier to devastate brand new machinegunners with beefed up ancient elephants ;) ).

    Memory-fix by Harkonnen is out!

I have it all the time, thought that is how the font should look like, silly me ;)

    Memory-fix by Harkonnen is out!

First check DirectX options 1. Execute dxdiag command from command line (or menu Start -> Run -> type "dxdiag" and hit enter) 2. Go to Display or Screen tab (sorry I don't know how exactly it's called in English version of DirectX as I use Polish) 3. See if you have "Fast AGP textures" on (or...

    Memory-fix by Harkonnen is out!

MUCH better :) Everything is again fast and smooth. It must be then that 64MB video memory thing. Thanks! However, corrupted leaderheads are still there. But I've also noticed that they are not always permanently gone - even after they turn invisible a little bit later sometimes show again...

    Memory-fix by Harkonnen is out!

Really hate to say it but... Yes, they're still around and I had them before. Now they seem to appear even faster (after 2-3 or so turns I believe). No, and didn't before. It's considerably slower. However I think it's not the globe view problem, but general one... see below Strange...

I might but this game tommorrow. Will my PC run it?

I'd try downloading the demo first, just to be prepared in case any problems occur. It's huge file though - 370 MB or so IIRC.

"Civ 4 Sucks!" A vain attepmt to address the many complaints.

I think warpstorm meant that CPU processing time is devoted mainly to execute in-game algorhitms and in between turns calculations while graphic cards processing unit does all the work needed for 3D/animations/antialiasing/light/whatever and generally all visual effects, hence main CPU work...

Soren: You can mod terrain-specific movement in XML

Excellent! After so many great news I predict Civ4: creation & customization forum being eventually more popular than this one! Civ3 is already almost there... Civ4: modders paradise :)

    Unit strength values

Actually, when strength of units is measured in relatively low integer numbers, given Civ 3 combat engine outcome of each battle it is far more predictable than if they were larger yet differing by the same amount (which is generally true as time passes and tech progresses). Look at this this...

What DO you like about Civ 4?

We don't know for sure what system will be featured in Civ 4 but I don't generally see this concept as inherently bad. After all, Master of Orion has exactly that: some planets are better in production, some in research yet there is also a global planetary reserve pool which accumulates "unused"...
