v1.16f: Issues? Bugs? This is the thread

SGX: Did you alter any of the civ colors in the editor by chance?

Changes to some annoying name errors, plus Canada civ

Tarquelne essentially made this point already, but Civ is a game of "might have been." You get to make the choices that give a Civ its alternate history. Using your criteria, many of the Civs (e.g., the Egyptians) should not be included because they did not "stand the test of time."

What Civ attributes would you change if you made Civ III?

Good points, Squiggy, but I really have to disagree with you on this one. The Japanese are commercial today, but only because we (i.e., MacArthur, et al.) forced them to adapt to democratic and capitalistic ways. Companies like Sony and the Japanese auto industry were helped in many ways by...

    Sid Meier's Betrayal

Every civilization in our (real) world which has risen to the level of a "great" civilization (or superpower) did so, in part, through the excerise or projection of miliatary power. Therefore, it should be highly unlikely in the game for a civilization to rise to the level of a superpower -- or...

v1.16f: Issues? Bugs? This is the thread

Yes, I most definitely had this problem. It happened at the very start of the game, probably while the other civs are founding their first cities. Had to tinker around with the color schemes until the crashes stopped.

Offered all 18cities of mine, about 500 gold and no right of passage?

panav: You need to check out your reputation. If you have a poor reputation as a back-stabbing treaty-breaker, no rational civ will give you a right of passage, period.

An ironclad in city deep inside a continent !!!

Perhaps it had rained for forty days and forty nights.

    who else loves the music?

You would like the music in Sim City 3000: has some jazz tunes with a Miles Davis like sound. Wish there was a way to transfer that to Civ III. Aagree with eyrei, that rock tune is annoying. (Note to Firaxis: the 80's only lasted one decade.)

    WW1, better then WW2

Well, two things: (1) The History Channel deals mostly with American history because, uh, it is an American cable network. If you are interested in starting an Argentine History Channel, perhaps you can get together a group of investors to do so, but good luck. (2) The History Channel...

    Nukes are Weak?

Let's face it, ever since Civ I, civ-nukes don't live up to their real-life counterparts. If my memory serves me correctly, this was an acknowledged concession to making the game more playable. In real life, one g0ddam nuke can just ruin your whole day.

    Man O War + Ironclads

Benn: True, but weren't all coal-powered ships rather limited in range (due to the amount of coal they could carry)? I am not an expert on this subject.

    Fascist Patch for Civ3

Chuckster: First of all, I know this is a long thread to review, but you misattribute a quote to me. I never said anything about sickness. That was someone else. Nor have I advocated censorship or removal of any posts. To the contrary, I have only advocated free and open debate of the...

    Fascist Patch for Civ3

Chuckster: Boy, it takes some patience and a bit of willpower to get through your mildly white supremacist blather, but having done so, I note that you say nothing about the merits of the Fascist Patch. Most people here have not advocated suppression of speech; we are debating the pros &...

    Man O War + Ironclads

I personally do not think that the ironclad should be able to travel the open seas; they should hug the coasts like a trireme does. If you've ever seen pictures of the monitor, you would seriously doubt whether you would want to try crossing the Atlantic in that. Keeping the ironclad close...

    Gold Per Turn

When extorting, er, asking an AI civ to pay you gold per turn for a one-time event (i.e., techs, maps, etc.), is the AI more likely to attack you within those 20 turns in order to break a per-turn gold agreement? Just wondering if anybody has noticed any trends along these lines.
