    Will This Tactic Work?

Whenever you capture an enemy city, you gain control of that city's Wonders, but you don't get any cultural benefit from them (no musical notes on the improvement list). However, you DO get the other benefits from them (free granaries from Pyramids, cheap upgrades from Leonardo, etc). My...

    Indvidualistic Strategy for non Sheep

I get around this problem by setting everything on random - including the civ I'm playing. This way, I force myself to adapt, and I don't know what's coming. Strategies may change. For instance, the last game I played was on Monarch with everything set on random. I was given the Babylonians...

    Cannons&Cavalry

I usually don't start aggressively using bombardment units until the advent of railroads, precisely for the reasons you outline.

    What Do You Build First?

Hmm, it really depends on where the "new city" is, and also when I'm acquiring it and under what circumstances. For instance, my first few cities in the game will build Warriors until they are large enough to build Settlers and Workers. However, later in the game, when the main expansion...

    Too Old to play

I'm 17. Got hooked on my cousin's copy of Civ 1 when I was around 9 or 10, then bought Civ 2 for myself as soon as it came out. Been hooked ever since.

    Regent to Monarch

My advice would be to go BACK to Regent and play a game where you don't build any wonders at all. See how you do. Maybe you haven't "mastered" Regent as well as you think you have. Ision has an excellent article in the War Academy about wonder addiction.

Only YOU can prevent nuclear winter!

In response to Gumby: Yes, I did have both Uranium and Aluminum. It has apparently been established that this is a bug that Firaxis fixed with one of the early patches. Sorry guys, looks like I pulled the alarm when there was no fire...

Only YOU can prevent nuclear winter!

I'm playing on Vanilla Civ 3. Just switched computers and haven't downloaded patches yet. And yes, I am going to patch it very soon. It's entirely possible that Firaxis has already fixed this. They may have even fixed it a long time ago. I guess we'll have to wait and hear from...

Only YOU can prevent nuclear winter!

You're right, it doesn't make much sense in historical/story terms, but it is an interesting game exploit.

Only YOU can prevent nuclear winter!

Interesting thing I discovered today: If the Manhattan Project is destroyed, nobody can build nuclear weapons anymore. I don't know if this is already common knowledge, but if not, then it's nice to know, for strategic purposes. Remember, it must be DESTROYED, not just captured...

    Why do you declare war?

I recently finished a game as the Egyptians on Regent level. I began the game with the intent of being a peaceful builder and set a 100k cultural victory as my goal. After the period of initial expansion, I settled down and concentrated on building lots of cultural improvements. Any city...

    Domination Victory Problem

It could lead to bigger problems than that - like an Iroquois spaceship launching. Resources only appear when old ones are depleted, and sources only get depleted when they are actually USED (connected) by a civilization. To prevent this, I unconnected all but one of my Uranium sources. This...

    Domination Victory Problem

An update for anyone who's interested in the aftermath of the incident: I reloaded a saved game from a few turns earlier, before I wasted my time pop-rushing hoardes of settlers. I took my remaining Modern Armor from the Egypt campaign and sent them across the ocean to invade Russia. Before I...

    Domination Victory Problem

Ah. Yes, population was my problem. Thanks for the help. Thanks for the tip about razing the capitals too.

    Domination Victory Problem

In my current game, I'm playing on a standard map with the Greeks (Regent level). I started out on a very large continent with the French, Germans, Romans and Egyptians, and the English, Russians and Iroquois are on a separate, smaller continent. The game is now somewhere in the 1830's (AD), and...
