What's your Favorite Civ to play as and why?

Wow lots of people like the Aztecs, a few are from there I see. I, as well, love the aztecs. One of the reasons is that I love their history and because i am, you guessed it, Mexican. Currently studying MesoAmerican history at school (Aztecs, Mayas and earlier civs). The UU, although...

    WOTM 05 - Final Spoiler

Hey guys, First time playing a Game of the Month, and I have not played Civ 4 for too long. Although I've had it for a while, been busy with other stuff and have just recently started playing again. This was the perfect game for me to get started I think because it is the level that I am...

So which is more addictive, Civ4 or WoW?

It depends. For the long term, Civ 4 for me has been more addictive, however, WoW does have a short term appeal. What I mean is, in WoW, the game progresses very nicely with many different quests through many different zones through levels 1-60. However, starting at around level 58 and...

Would you like a modern times XP?

Still doesn't solve the problem of the game being decided/over by modern age...

    Civ dating scheme needs improvement

One of the only ways I can see this happening is if there was a system for it sort of like the religion system. After all, even the minority can influence an outcome..so there would need to be a way to "spread" the calendar, as others have mentioned, not everyone uses the same system...

    "Luck" Ruins civ's "professional" appeal.

While reading this, I am thinking about the many times where many people were given up for deafeted, as in a scenerio where they were overwhelmed by 3 or 4 times, yet somehow..they managed to succeed with better training, sheer wheel, or just brilliant commanding...They were few, as the...

    Balance

I think it may have to do with the strategies being employed. For example, you mention that you are bothered by using specialists because they slow down the grow of a city...perhaps try the following. As I have read in reports of other players, specialists are great for a city where it has an...

    Civ dating scheme needs improvement

I think that it is just a way of standaricing things, make sure everyone is "on the same page" as most people know the timeline ( I don't mean like christ was born this day etc, more of like events happened when). They did this with other things, such as currency. Why can we not name our own...

    "Luck" Ruins civ's "professional" appeal.

What I think people may not think about(or understand) that if some of the "luck" factors where to be changed, it would ruin the game... What do I mean? Well one of the most interesting things about the game is having to change your strategy because of what is available to you. Using egypt...

Would you like a modern times XP?

I like the idea of changing the space win to more of bonuses or wonders such as the circumnaviating(sp?) the world, where maybe instead of +1 (or whatever it is) movement it give sbonus to science or what not. However, I believe that then you would need to stretch the tech line to make it actual...

Would you like a modern times XP?

I think one of the reasons for firaxis to not include things such as terrorist and suicide bombers (same as kamikaze pilots..which are the same thing) is that it would create controversy. What do I mean? Well it is considered an extremely hanious (sp?) act, specially when it targets civilians...

Would you like a modern times XP?

THe problem in my view is that an expansion focused solely (or even just heavily) on modern times would make a lot of wasted content. As others have said in the other "modern times" post, the game is very often decided or done by the modern period, what would more content give it do to fix this...

    The Modern Era . . .

I think that the problem with that is, I don't think it would be very fair for me to build my empire...building up points...then loose those points (and perhaps the game) because some of my cities decided to revolt..and whether I give them independence or decide to fight htem off and reconquer...

On what basis do you chose your civ?

I am from Mexico, and as such I usually (about 50% of the time) choose the Aztecs. Always have been intrigued by the culture, and always make it a habit to pick them in strategy games where they are offered. 25% of the time I pick random civ, and the final 25% would be for some kind of trait...

    The Modern Era . . .

I think the problem is how Civ itself is handled. You can't have everything that is/was important to the world for a couple of reasons (in my opinion). First, Civ IV is a STRATEGY game...not a simulation. This is one of the distinct differences in my opinion. The fact that it is a game period...
