Need to run Civ3 without CD

Whenever I buy a game, I make a copy of it using Disc Copy (New Image from Device, CD/DVD master). It works great, and really saves a lot of time. -Jim

    Help a Newbie Out!

I had the same problems when I bought Civ3. The AI cheats, plain and simple. It builds a ton of units in an incredibly short amount of time. Actually, I think the creator of the AI talked about how Civ3 cheats in order to compete with human players. You can probably find the article off of...

    unbalanced units??

I like that the Planet Buster is the most troublesome/powerful weapon. It mimics today's modern democratic attitude. If a nation ever used an atomic bomb now, all other nations would shun it and refuse to cooperate with that nation. We got away with dropping two atomic bombs, but the world...

    Alien Crossfire for sale?

Ha! I live in NY, so Alien Crossfire for the Mac was $5 plus $7 shipping, brand new of course from Aspyr. This is certainly interesting. Mac users getting a piece of software with greater availability and more cheaply than PC users. I never thought I'd see the day. -Jim

Will there be alpha centuari II

It is a shame. Alien Crossfire is an excellent game. It is far better than Civ3 in almost every respect. Even diplomacy, which could be a bit stronger, is a million times more accurate and engaging than Civ3. I would really love to see a sequel to this game, of the same caliber, of course...

    SMAC/SMACX Carbon

Actually, I've played both games extensively before. I bought both right after they came out for the PC (bought a Mac in 2000). I've since moved a few times and lost my Alien Crossfire PC CD and managed to scratch up my SMAC CD. The game is amazing. The diplomacy is incredibly realistic...

    SMAC/SMACX Carbon

I've played it for about five hours across this past weekend. It works great in OS 10.2.4, with one execption: it crashes about 90% of the time when I try to save. VERY ANNOYING! Otherwise, it's great. It will crash if it tries to play a movie and the CD-ROM isn't in the drive. Personally...

    Lateralis techs mod **warning-large screenshot**

That's a good idea. Is this possible (pardon me if you addressed this earlier): just have the Small Wonder voided by an immediate prerequisite to another government form (or the government form itself). You mentioned this. Why wouldn't it work? I'm not understanding the explanation...

    Lateralis techs mod **warning-large screenshot**

That's why this entire thing is hard to pin to history. After the creation of the Roman Empire, I don't think there were any major Republics in the world (please correct me if I'm wrong). But, you can select the Republic in the game and keep it through the Middle Ages, which is no better (even...

    Lateralis techs mod **warning-large screenshot**

Hmm. I would make monotheism have significantly more prerequisites needed to research it over polytheism and Eastern Mysticism. Monotheism in Ancient Times was a rareity, and if a player wants in in Ancient Times, the list of prerequisites should be fairly high, I think. I like the idea of the...

    Lateralis techs mod **warning-large screenshot**

If you want to get historical, I think polytheism really should be a requisite to monotheism (but still included in Ancient Times). Actually, there is a lot of evidence that suggests that the original Jews were polytheistic, and Yahvisim (I mispelled that) became a strong force within the union...

    SMAC/SMACX Carbon

The package of SMAC/X came yesterday evening. It wouldn't install in Classic mode (damn), but it works. The carbon version of both games looks great (I played both for about 20 minutes). I won't get a chance to play it for a while (damn work is piling up). So far, it looks great. -Jim
