Mac Native vs. Boot Camp (Gfx and Performance)

Reviving an old thread of mine that died because people were waiting for patches to see how much Mac native performance might improve. Is there a verdict yet? With a pretty powerful MBP (Core i7, 8GB RAM, 512MB gfx), will I get better graphics and/or performance playing Mac native or...

Performance for those who play in Boot Camp

How tasty is that eye candy I would be foregoing?

Performance for those who play in Boot Camp

Very interesting. It would never occurred to me that this would be good enough. Now I can try out Civ V for the PC, cost free. Looks like I'll be researching Boot Camp tonight!

Performance for those who play in Boot Camp

Because I have a copy of Windows XP, can I skip buying Windows 7 and still get better performance than through OSX?

Performance for those who play in Boot Camp

I was considering getting Windows 7 to install on my MBP i7, 8GB RAM, 512MB VRAM for the sole purpose of improving performance on Civ V. After reading this thread, it sounds like that ain't gonna happen over the Mac version. Is that the consensus? Play Mac native and not on Windows through...

Boot Camp vs. Mac Native Civ 5

Wow. Didn't know this. Given the free dual-copies from Steam, I guess I need to start shopping for a copy of Windows 7.

    Good point. Will do.

Boot Camp vs. Mac Native Civ 5

I took it for granted that the Mac native Civ 5 would run faster and better than playing the PC version on Boot Camp with Windows 7. Is there any chance I was wrong? Have others here done a lot of comparing?

Aspyr - FYI on a bug

My game is totally locking up about 1 out of every 8 times I go to the animated enemy leader screen. Requires turning off my laptop to get out. System is MPB Corei7, 8GB ram, 512MB VRAM, OS10.6.5. Apart from intro video not playing, performance is otherwise fine.

How does Civ V perform for you?

MBP Core i7, 8GB RAM, 512MB VRAM. Runs very well. Only at about turn 200 on a standard map, but totally satisfied with performance so far. Get occasional crashes, but no more than expected.

    Unhappy with Unhappiness

Can someone point me to a thread with a simple summary of the ICS strategy? I take it the strategy has to do with building lots of cities fairly close together, but I don't understand it too well so far. Sorry to be so clueless.

    Unhappy with Unhappiness

    1. Done in almost every major city 2. Going to rewind about 15 turns to make this choice 3. Done 4. In process, but infinitely delayed by having -10 happiness 5. Done in almost every city with horses Probably, now that I see the problem, I'll be able to avoid it in future games...

Yes. And I'm often dropping the 680 for a Collesium or a Circus, just because I have no other choice.

    Unhappy with Unhappiness

The reason I am reloading 90 minutes back is because I was going for that Liberty policy that reduces unhappiness caused by the number of cities. However, I need the band-aid of the Honor policy that allows garrisoned units to give happiness. Then I can make the Liberty policy a long term...
