I don't think that's the case. It's to do with how much this stuff cost to develop, and how many people are actually going to play it. There's less profit in charging £40 for an expansion that only a few 1000 play, compared to charging £15 for a sims expansion which sells millions.

I get the same thing. 5850's in crossfire catalyst 10.9, win7 64bit. Flickering black squares on the map. Also, the GPU usage seems very high. Both GPU's go to 100% during the menu screens, and about 70% during the game.

Difficulty level is the key here. Most people play on a difficultly level that's way below what they should be playing. IF they were playing a suitable difficulty level, the AI's would put up a better fight, and the game would last until the modern age.
