    At one point you are gonna be choosing between running specialist or working cottages to grow them in the long run. These are trade-off and both can be ideal depending on the situation. The situation is "There are no tech trades. What do you do". Will that affect your decision?

    I'd say you could war for economic reasons. Let's say that you are close leader in GNP and someone else on another continent is leading. You could make a Carrier Battlegroup and go bomb the cottages and blockade all ports. Soon enough you get the lead without even landing an expeditionary force.
