Kids want to see a cultural victory. I got a pretty bad 1834AD cultural finish.
Saladin settled 2 cities on our island -- one of them is a religion holy city, so undoubtedly I need to conquer them. However, I built too few troops (given that this is a cultural attempt) and underestimated their...
I wanted a GOTM since I finished something big in RL and wanted to relax, but I also don't think I have the time to grind over an immortal war game.. So I went the easy way of trying a diplo victory.
Grew to 6 cities only since there is not that much room to expand. Declared on Pacal at 150AD...
Thanks MarleysGh0st! After a long hiatus, I decided to introduce Civ 4 to my kids as a better alternative to middle school humanities lesson. A super rusty game that saw some early successes with a CS slingshot, but later Victoria eliminated my trebs using her catapult stack in the middle ages...
Thanks DS for the results and kcd for the fun map! I wasn't having a lot of time playing Civ now due to RL, but I guess I might be a bit more seasoned after returning to the game from a 12-year hiatus after winning the eptathlete of the vanilla Civ4 in 2008. Immense gratitude for the organizers...
So I attacked really slowly in the end.. Declared war at Zara Yaqob at 520AD. After capturing 2 cities, he capped at 640AD and I accepted because the only city he had was on a hill and with no food resource.
I was beelining Astronomy because I thought I would need it to be able to attack people...
The Ramesses one didn't work out for me (blundered too badly in a war) so I switched to this one.
Hunting -> AH -> BW start. Built GLH and went for CS slingshot instead of chariot rush. CS slingshot finished at 800BC. Then, the original plan is to go for a HA rush, but tech rate is pretty fast...
I did found all the latter religions. Despite losing the gold city early and spending way too long to re-take it, the tech still got way ahead than the buildings. So I got to Democracy and switched to Universal Suffrage. Used a few turns to stockpile gold to hurry quite a few buildings...
I did very badly in this one, but I lasted enough to push the submit button.
Going for culture, one would have to realize that the 3 older religions were all in barb land. So I sent an army of Maces and Cats to take them. They took Fool's Gold easily, only to realize it was indeed Fool's Gold...
I also got fooled hard.. I didn't kill the barb galley and then with the first galley 2 longbows descended on my capital which only had a warrior. I rushed an Axe hoping that he would at least fend off 1 of them, then I can rush another one. This worked and the Axe actually defeated both...
Thanks kcd for a fun map! I'm so intrigued by the fact that SE asia could double up as the English channel! Very creative indeed!
Feudalism slingshot HA rush rules!
Thanks nocho! I said 250BC is late is in comparison to a "pure" HA rush. Happy to get a kudos from you! I've been trying to learn your game ever since I came back to Civ 4 after a 12-years hiatus.
TL;DR: I did the horse archer one and it worked. Conquest 1180AD
Thought about doing the horse archer rush since it's Prince. But with 7 rivals I was afraid that I might go into strike too early and get killed economically. Also, there are possibilities that the latter civs will get to longbows...
