I do agree on at least one of the main points - in regards to military tech, by the time you build the units necessary to take your opponent's city, your units are already obsolete.

My missionary failed to convert a city, but the gold generated by my shrines increased anyway (at least, according to the on-screen display). I didn't think to check next turn to see if the gold/turn was corrected. Failure to convert a city is pretty rare, so I didn't bother saving the game...

I have the same problem. I tried putting in [default] for the leader name, but that just made it so my leader was named Default.

I am currently playing a game where I had the same problem early on. The Incas were horrible about trading stuff. However, other civs are not so bad. I think this must be a trait of the Civ. Perhaps it's a trait shared by all aggressive civs.

Gets slow later in the game (1000 AD or so?) when there are a lot of units. I had the same problem in Civ III on Huge world, but now I'm getting it on Standard world.

Same problem with Nvidia GeForce4 MMX. Editing the .ini file worked. I can't update to the latest drivers as someone else suggested as that caused other problems (the details of which I posted in another thread).

I have a GeForce4 MMX. I had a problem that was similar, and after a little investigation realized that not only Civ but even games that used to work fine were suddenly not working. I rolled back the drivers which I had downloaded just before buying Civ, and now everything works fine.
