    BOTM 47 -- First Spoiler to 1AD

I just want to say that this was a great idea for a game, and I am throughly enjoying it, but on such a large map I don't know if I will find the time to finish it. Even just meeting the other civs took a long time. I did my usual beeline towards alpha, but there was very little tech trading...

    BOTM 26 - Starts 15 January

Hrm, I was thinking the obvious choice was to move SW to see if there was any reason to leave the sheep to a southern city. Settling 1SE, building Moai and National Epic, farm/mill/workshop the boring tiles? The 4 seafood gives +13 food, another +4 net for the corn, so that gets us up to...

    GOTM 50 Final Spoiler

1912 Space Race Victory: An early axe rush took care of Washington in 1320BC, then I struggled with the vast distances across the continent, trying to fight in both directions at once. Oracled Feudalism in 900BC without building an archer, then missed the pyramids by a single turn (1AD, too...

    Civ4 GOTM 44 First Spoiler - 500 AD

Contender. Settled 1E, to get both cows and the gems. The warrior had moved onto the hill, so he started exploring down the SW towards Izzy. Having picked the cow spot, tech path was hunting then AH. Picked a worker as the first build, realising that it would have about enough time to camp...

    GOTM 43 First Spoiler - 1 AD

Awesome writeup from kcd_swede :salute: Settled on the plains hill next to the lake, as I didnt want to give up fresh water. An added bonus was the ocean access. Started building Quechas, and researching Hunting->AH then mining->BW. Found MM and GW. Decided the later would be the first...

    BOTM 18 First Spoiler - 1 AD

Moved the warrior onto the hill, for better scouting, and found the corn. So settled 1W for the corn, 2 oasis, and the mysterious plains square, started a worker, and went straight for BW, then pottery->writing->alpha. First warrior circled NW->NE, discovering AH, and getting killed by a...

An update from Firaxis about the Colonization patch

Hrm, requests. Off the top of my head: 1) Adopt Dale's fixes wholesale. 2) Rebalance REF. Change starting size based on difficulty. Delay expansions if King is happy. Reduce REF size dependance on total bells, instead increase influence of bells/turn, % sentiment, and colony military...

If they are sufficiently happy with you, simply ask them to declare war on the King in their diplomacy screen. As several Founding Fathers give bonuses to native relations, they might be worth taking to help get the natives in the war.

Axxon's Guide to All You Want To Know About REF, Rebel Sentiment and Revolution

I guess having cathedrals and firebrand preachers helps, as you can use them to bump your rebel% after declaring independence.

    Post Short Tips/Tricks Here

You can use merchantmen as bait for the Kings Men O War. Hopefully the merchant will survive, and flee to a drydock, while taking the MoW health far enough down for your Ship of the Line to counter attack. Much cheaper than using two SoLs. Alternatively, assign a great general to a ship of...

Natives gave me their settlements and I got the ruins

One reason to accept is if you want to build your own colony there, but by the time I am ramping bell production, I do not want to be building colonies

WHy have walls and Frig/SOL if they serve no purpose?

Fortresses can be useful, as it still takes the AI a good couple of rounds to reduce their bonus to zero. Ideally they would let you fight back against the bombarding MoW, to the point where a counter by SoL were possible.

Ship of the Line or Frigate best against King?

Heh, I am building SoL as fast as I can, because the King has captured one of my islands, and I am not close enough to be able to land troops on the island in a single turn, running the 17 MoW gauntlet. So building SoL, and hoping the King will eventually ship the rest of his army over to my...

What is the Man-O-War and the SOL anyways? - a topic on ships with some ranting

I can't cite a source off hand, but I would have said MoW were first raters, and SoL were rates 1-3. But ultimately I think colonial SoL were unnecessary, we could have stuck with frigates. Without a foreign intervention, or shore batteries, fighting the King's fleet is a waste of time.
