Hello,
after years I've started playing cIV again recently. Since vanilla is... not as good as some of the great mods out there (namely RAND, RI), I installed those.
However, RAND is giving me trouble.
While the installer works and the updater does as well and the game starts up fine into RAND...
Thanks.
I have used the GIMP for editing the Gamefont before. It worked, so I'm quite confident. Will look into that, perhaps then I'll get that issue with the smilies sorted out.
Since my resources show up in small numbers (on a huge pangea map, arid climate to have lots of plains and...
The icons were not the problem, they showed. Rather, when I had camel and bison resource in the game (I finally got them both to show up by allowing bison in desert) The text would be screwed up. Like I posted, instead of a bullet leading '·' in front of a message like "·Autosaving" would become...
A question regarding resources:
I like them very much and thus decided I'd add a few more. I took RoM as a starting point, which already has a good deal of resources.
1. I added a camel resource, which works nicely (or at least, it shows up on the map etc.)
2. I tried to add a bison resource...
You're right, I guess. So with time there could be more technologies that are just unlocked by inventing a required tech. Thus the tech tree would become more like we know it as time progresses. A key tech would be scientific method, probably, after the discovery of which research became more...
That resource stockpiling idea is great, too. Seems to be more realistic than "have the resource and build". It means that you need to think what to spend your iron on, for example. Railroads or ironclads? Sounds neat.
Now, I don't know about ciV, and of course, things just happening randomly is kinda stupid.
As I said, I really haven't fleshed that idea out. It's just something that came to mind when playing civ (any of them). I don't even know if this idea is practical in any way and much less do I know how...
I like the natural wonders idea. AFAIK they introduced them to ciV and are originally from FFH... I'd like to implement them, too.
Also, your Heroes idea is cool, i.e. that they are era specific.
I'm not sure about the resources stockpiling. Does that mean that you get "resource points" for...
Randomizing the techtree sounds like a bad idea to me.
Not being able to research technologies of past eras also seems like a bad idea, unless you allow for alternatives. Example: Obviously you can't build cottages without pottery; fine, but you should then be able to build cottages or towns...
You have a point there.
Is there no other way to implement this? OK, using the random event seems to work - dunno if it is more efficient, though. And it probably prevents other events from happening, which isn't great as well.
I think I see now why modders/ game designers decided that...
Well, I'm not too concerned about the AI. Moreover, I planned that affected units travelling over ocean have a chance (say 10%) of being bestowed with a promotion that makes them seaworthy, so the AI (and the player) wouldn't lose all ships.
Alternative:
Another idea is that the ships won't...
Having read a bit more in some tutorials and the modiki and after thinking some more about it, I wonder if this event wouldn't rather fit into "CvEventManager".
The idea is:
Whenever either a Galley, War Galley, etc. is moved into an ocean square (if possible: that is not inside own cultural...
Sinking only ships that are on ocean worked.
The problem with the trigger firing not often enough was solved with a little python (I found, to be honest, a very similar event in the CvRandomEventInterface which I adapted to my needs). Basically the event will always be triggered, but the effect...
Thanks. Worked it out.
The only problem left is that the event triggers far too seldom.
setting iWeight to -1 is too much, I want the boats to have a chance to survive.
Anything but -1 is too low. Even at 500000 it doesn't trigger more than once in 40 turns.
That's exactly what I want. It...
