That matches the first image. By the looks of it, the first type of image is a static map overlaid by the actual data, while the IR pictures are just the data.

Coverage issue I'd guess. Sharp lines mean its something technical since nature doesn't do sharp lines. So missing pictures or a blind spot in the coverage. 4:30 UTC is midnight on the East Coast for what its worth. Maybe its a receiver being down for maintenance. Where did you find those maps...

These crashes are hard to solve. The quickest way around them is to go back and not do things that led to the saves state, just sending a spy to a different town, or leaving a unit where it was should do the trick.

Do you need to automate it? If it's just one dataset, I'd make a scatterplot and look for it visually. Or use conditional formatting that highlights datapoints above a certain threshhold value.
