I assume you are a veteran of the game that knows the basic concepts and mechanics. What about a new player, though? The brand new player needs to go to an Internet web site to get all the information he needs to play the game - thats a bunch of BS, in my opinion.
Sorry for derailing this...
Here's the thing though - a player needs a detailed description of the rules to the game in order to play. That needs to be documented clearly in a manual or in the civopedia. How can anyone be expected to learn to play without the rules being clearly defined somewhere? I buy a boardgame, I...
Speaking of Crossroads of the World, how can anyone say that this game company doesnt engage in predatory pricing when this thirty dollar piece of software exists?
What can more visible to the player than how to play the game inside the game itself? I think every system in the game should be detailed inside the game either in a manual or in the game itself, as it has been for almost three decades since the civopedia initially appeared in 1996.
So - we dont get a manual for the game on how to play and we shouldnt expect any in-game resource, such as a civopedia, to learn how to play the game. We should go to an external website to learn about the game. That sounds about right.
You know what might be better than focusing on advisors? Fixing the Civopedia....How about a hyperlinked and contextual civopedia that they have had in the game since 1996. If I right click on a unit in its panel, how about bringing up useful information on that unit in the Civopedia with...
To me it feels more like he cobbled together Humankind and History of the World (https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/224/history-of-the-world) into this mess of a game.
This may be true. 90% of a 5K player base is greater than 10% of a 30K player base. The only problem I see is that most people want to play an empire building game, but that ain't civ 7. They solved a problem that destroyed their player base. Good one guys.
You may be right - but the title of the thread is 'Maybe Civilization should have no Civs.' The fact that I think most people want to play civ as an empire builder is in fact why I dont agree with the premise of this thread. I think the foundational design problems with the game, that is age...
Which is exactly what was done to the people who play the game as an empire-building game. There are people who identify with the nation and want to build that nation to stand the test of time, not something they believe in.... In fact, given the reception of this iteration of civ, I think most...
I agree with this. They made their design decisions and they are being forced to deal with the inevitable outcomes. The game is cooked. I read alot about how more DLC and expansions will 'fix' things with the game. It won't - it can't. The game is broken at a fundamental design level. They...
And splitting your fanbase is not a very good business decision. But no one ever accused Firaxis/Take2 of having the biggest brains when it comes to business and satisfying all their customers.
The law of supply and demand has been proven to be true spanning though time and culture. It is as provable and universal as the law of gravity.
I think we are arguing in circles here. So I will leave it with this - I think that Firaxis, or Take2, has deliberately and predatorily priced this...
