Happening this Thursday, May 15: we want to hear your thoughts on Advisor Warnings!

I didn’t know this either. Did I turn them off somehow?
If you put tutorial level at "off" it might be that advisors are disabled. I've set this to "only warnings" since I first started the game, and always had a mix of useful ("enemy near an undefended city") and useless advisors ("someone has more science than you").

Probably. It's tutorial settings - you could have full tutorial, advisor recommendations or just turned off. I believe you just have them turned off.

That's another UI thing done in not a great way, because advisors inform about things happening in particular game, not try to teach rules in general. They should be a separate setting.
I don't doubt that it is what queenpea did like a lot of players, but I didn't. I just vaguely remember the game saying me something at a point, but didn't identified this as a character that could characterize as "advisor". ;)

However I remember having some messages like mentioned here :
The 'trailing behind in civics' advisor popup is something I'm gonna bring up, always shows up early in a game when of course I'm going to be behind, the AI are still in their headstart.

Don't remember any others which are annoying though, but neither can I think of many that are especially useful except for the ones that remind me to spend some gold and influence.
So the "advisors" have been quite discreet in my game and I certainly didn't identify "them" as characters. But maybe that it's just my interpretation that they should appear as so. (based on previous iterations ?) Unless we are speaking about a single advisor, like an AI that could give you hints and... advice.

- Have the 'you should make a trade route' popup tell me what resources are available, or have a button which opens up the trade 'lens'
- A 'do not remind me again' option if you think you won't want a certain warning again this game
- 'Disagreeing with leader agenda' if you're generally friendly with another leader but that's in danger of being undone because you're starting go against their agenda
That is partly an issue with the AI bonuses, flat % bonuses.
If the bonuses started at a low level and ramped up to the max level over the first ~80 turns of an Age, then that might make a bit more sense.
(possibly even have the AI starting bonuses depend on how far ahead/behind they are or the player is)

You know what might be better than focusing on advisors? Fixing the Civopedia....How about a hyperlinked and contextual civopedia that they have had in the game since 1996. If I right click on a unit in its panel, how about bringing up useful information on that unit in the Civopedia with links to other sections of the civopedia that explains other concepts.

But that's one more thing which barely needs player input.

Not entirely, they apparently went with the "less information to players" model.. ie information (other than a summary) is hard to get. Having player feedback on how much info they want is important.

Should the possible narrative events all be detailed in the civilopedia?
Should all the cost formulas be displayed in the civilopedia?
etc. Some people might disagree

To me the civilopedia should contain a similar amount of detailed information that we get from Fandom, i never use the civilopedia and if i want to look something up i've always used Fandom, in the rare instance they don't have what i'm looking for then i search the web. Civilopedia is just bare bones.

I prefer them prioritising systems that are more visible to the player.

I mean, ideally, both. But we're not going to get a community engagement session about both at the same time, because that'd massively dilute and confuse the feedback given.

You do understand that - as has been previously linked (from reddit I think) - they're looking at far more things than just advisors?

So - we dont get a manual for the game on how to play and we shouldnt expect any in-game resource, such as a civopedia, to learn how to play the game. We should go to an external website to learn about the game. That sounds about right.

What can more visible to the player than how to play the game inside the game itself? I think every system in the game should be detailed inside the game either in a manual or in the game itself, as it has been for almost three decades since the civopedia initially appeared in 1996.

The one that tells you about war weariness when you aren't having any should definitely be fixed or disappear.

Something that tells me how to play the game isn't as visible as something that pops up while I'm playing.

This is not me saying systems should not be detailed in the Civilopedia. This is simply about the original goalpost r.e.priorities.

Interesting, this is absolutely not what I experience and is how I expected the change would work when it was announced!

I don’t use any mods but will dive into the settings again tonight to see if there’s anything I’ve done that might have thrown things off. Otherwise I’ll report it as a bug. Thank you!

Are you guys sure you're talking about the same circles? There are the ones that appear around the next action/turn button, then the one that has the number of notifications it contains on it above the same button.

I was talking about the ones above the button, such as the disaster and attack notifications. Those stack by type, but different types are separated.
