The game doesn't go into specific detail when it comes to religion, which is why they are all identical. I reckon there must be a few mods out there that would add some flavour though.

Upgrading CRIII Macemen to Grenadiers is a definite. If you get Chemistry early enough they are just devastating. I love Chemistry.
