    Useless Minutiae

Culture games. Every little bit helps. Nope Once, in a newly conquered city in a location under a lot of cultural pressure from a 3rd civ I didn't plan on fighting anytime soon. Culture games. Being the first to divine right is pretty easy and once a city starting spitting out...

    Worker Automation

Don't automate your workers unless you want to build improvements like the AI. Automated workers don't prioritze cottages, clearing jungles, hooking up cities to the trade network, love to build 10,005 farms, and don't stack to get improvements quickly, just to name a few annoying things off...

what is the civic that you least use?

Though, thinking about it now, environmentalism does seem to be one of the better civics in OCC games.

    Game speeds

Actually I've found the game plays much differently depending on speed. There are four significant differences between game speeds 1) On longer game speeds units can move further and do more in a shorter period of game time. 2) On Marathon (only I believe...) units are cheaper compared to...

    Grassland hill windmill vs mine

Well, I know why I build the way I do, but after seeing so many saves and screens of hill=mine, I thought perhaps there was some clear advantage I wasn't seeing. I tend not to run any specialists at all for quite a long time and then only in my largest cities, which is probably one of the...

    Grassland hill windmill vs mine

This is my line of reasoning exactly, only it ends up being a lot more than 8c in this case, since you're not taking into account the loss of cottages to make farms to work the mines. The main reason I like to put windmills on grassland hills instead of mines is it makes the tile...

    Grassland hill windmill vs mine

After seeing plenty of screenshots and saves on this forum I've come to the conclusion that I must be the only person on Earth who plays above Noble who builds significant numbers of windmills. I'm just wondering why this is - generally when trying to decide between a windmill and a mine my...

    I've taken the continent...now what?

The (usually) easiest way to slow down Mansa short of taking him out is to pillage his cottages. Even if you know you have no chance of taking him out, land a few stacks anyway and go a merry rampage until they're all dead. Get some other civs to declare on him and help you out as well.

    Capital

I've done it exactly once. Was going for culture with a 12 city setup, my capital ended up not being one of my big three culture cities as it was sited at an unusually bad location that about 1/2 fresh water lake and 2/5 plains (some had ivory), rest hills. Anyway, since my capital was...

Your Missionary Fails to Spread Religion

I don't know the exact numbers, but in general cities that already have several religions are resistant to the spread of a new one, and holy cities are always quite resistant to any other religion.

    Newbie qeustions

I don't think you understand the basic mechanic so I'll explain it. All cities produce unhappiness, based on several factors, the main one usually being population. Every point of population adds 1 . Your cities also produce :), you get some free :) based on difficulty and the rest you...

    weakest triats

Ind. is a nice trait to have, not just for builders but for financial types on higher difficulties when the AI grabs most wonders super fast. When you lose a wonder, all those hammers are converted into gold at a 1:1 ratio, the best in the game. Industrious civs build wonders twice as fast...

    Spies

I love spies. I use them almost exlusively as scouts, though I do sabotage sometimes when I want to slow down another civ a bit. Scouting spies are awesome because.. - They're invisible. The other civ doesn't know you're checking them out, like they do when you send a scout unit out w/ open...

How to stay up in techs while isolated???

Solo starts aren't bad usually, but they do call for a change in plans. Generally I only build enough military to keep the barbs off my back, beeline to writing (for library spam), then optics, then build some caravals and research alphabet. The only real key to a successful island start for...

    Opening Build Order

While I won't aruge with your points, at the very start of the game most of the things you mention are unknown. Is there copper or horses nearby? Is there another civ nearby? Are you on an island by yourself? There may or may not be a lot of food near your starting city, but is there another...
