    News: GOTM 71 - Starts 1 October

Looks fun! Thanks, jesusin :goodjob: Does "No Tech Trading" mean that the AIs can't trade techs with each other either, or is it only the human player that can't trade tech?

    News: BOTM 46 -- Starts September 16

Hmmm, what's the power rating of a tactical nuke? Will having 3 nukes keep AIs from attacking us due to power ratios? I'll probably move the settler to the oasis 1NE to check for food, then most likely settle on river PH NEE. Assuming we're on the eastern side of the Mediterranean, the...

SGOTM 13 - What do you want?

How about a "blind" setup: teams start without knowing the map type, climate settings, or the number of AI opponents. I would say hide the map size and difficulty level too, but you can figure those out pretty easily from build/tech costs.

SGOTM 13 - What do you want?

One of the fun things about SGOTMs is that they force teams to explore underused aspects of the game, and thus deviate from the formulae that have been developed to win regular games (e.g. cottage spam, CS sling, etc.). How about this setup: - future start (take tech almost completely out of...

SGOTM 12 - One Short Straw

:hide: Thanks for the offer :D Unfortunately, I had to give away my CIV discs because the game was eating my life :badcomp:

SGOTM 12 - One Short Straw

Lol, ok. Well, next time I'll be a dedicated OSS lurker.

SGOTM 12 - One Short Straw

The pleasure is all mine :D Is it legal for me to post as a lurker during an ongoing game, even when I've read other teams' threads? I would have, but I didn't want to mess anything up for you guys.

SGOTM 12 - One Short Straw

I was going to ask you guys if you thought LC's Galley City "mistake" helped or hurt the finish date. It certainly led to more useful AI's, but probably forced you to lib Bio instead of AL. I thought that the way you leveraged that "mistake" was one of the best examples of the principle that...

This SG turned into a really fascinating...

    GOTM 42 First Spoiler

I just thought of something: the last Emperor game I played was BOTM 08, in which we started alone on a lush island... Sounds familiar, but I remember I actually won that game, in style, with tons of wonders too. What was different about that game... ?

    GOTM 42 First Spoiler

reuster, contender save goals: i)survive raging barbs and bust the fog iia) frolic through luscious, food-filled grasslands (REX) iib) create the sweetest GP farm possible iii) due to likely barb-delayed early economy, choose a VC that allows me to take advantage of the long-term economic...

    GOTM/WOTM/BOTM Schedule

:thanx: Indeed, you are quite right. I think there are two important factors for single-version players: the 1) distribution and 2) trend of difficulties over time within a single version. For GOTMs only, the two schedules are as follows: separate sawteeth: 1 2 3 4 5 6 1 2 3 4 5 6...

    News: BOTM 09 Final Spoiler

@ Nioco: I was factoring in the jail/agency bonuses but at the same time assuming that most people build more libraries/universities/observatories/labs, which neutralize this bonus when comparing the two. This may change in the late game for some people, depending on build priorities, but for...

    News: BOTM 09 Final Spoiler

Quick thought experiment : say A is running 80% research and generating 800 bpt, researching techs that cost about 6000 beakers (a tech every 7.5 turns). Now say B has the same economy but is running 70% research and 10% espionage, generating somewhere around 700 bpt, thus a tech...
