    I had some games, where I could trade favor for DoW. Also sometimes, when AI asks for open borders with me, I can trade favor instead. I'm used to calculate favor in amount of energy per turn (around 4) - so when the AI would be willing to make a DoW for 24 energy per turn, i can offer him 6...

    Try to kill no aliens in the beginning, then they are far less aggressive. Stay away from alien nests at least two fields away. When you escort your colonists by one soldier, you should be able to settle wherever you like. If you are not considered hostile by the aliens, they tend to attack...

    If you mean collaborative thought (instead of cognition - gives no affinity upgrade), then I would choose that one in order to try to build the precog project wonder for additional health and culture (and +15% combat strength in friendly territory)

    I place cities with four squares in between - then i use ultrasonic fences. This way i have no troubles with the critters. With the fence technology comes a quest to protect trade routes from alien attacks.

    I agree, the annoying pop-up distracts me from the main plot but an auto-renew-to-best... makes trade routes somehow silly. I would like to have an all time overview window, which routes are available for each city. Then an auto-renew-enabled checkbox on trade route screen would suffice to ask...

    71 turns for a religion no one can guaratee to get? I think mathematics (17) is a better choice: After 17 turns you can decide to go for calendar (+27), currency(+31) or construction(+27). Two of three you get in less than 75 turns and have guaranteed benefits.
