They rarely do those for DLCs, only for main launch and major expansions.

    Settler's edition announced

As someone who’s already doing that in my games to level up leaders - no, it’s not that much fun in my practice. It’s the same slog times 4. A lot of that is due to the poor design of Modern, but also if you have an explosive Exploration game (and you typically should), then there is little...

What's your opinion on civ switching?

Personally, I think that the concepts of “empire” and “civilization” are distinct enough and should not be used interchangeably. Semantically I would indeed put the word “civilization” closer to “faction” than I would put the word “empire”. And I think one of the reasons for this ongoing debate...

    Civ Discussion - Inca

While I agree that too many mountains make sprawl awkward, in my games I generally don’t mind having 3-5 of them per settlement. They give pretty good yields by Modern, to the point I may prefer them over mines/quarries/woodcutters. Also, absolutely do not sleep on Quipu. Off the top of my...

I wonder if leader level achieved is a good reflection of their respective strengths ?

Absolutely not a good reflection, especially when there are documented cases of some leader achievements not being counted and thus depriving you of the leader EXP. My playthroughs have been me maximizing legacy points, which naturally feeds into your leader progression. Thus, I consistently...

What's your opinion on civ switching?

And I’d posit that emotional response does matter in an entertainment product, which video games absolutely are. It’s the same reason why I don’t touch any sci-fi or fantasy based turn-based strategies. Logically, they share the same mechanical foundation and scratch the same gameplay itch as...

    Poll: Civilisation Uniques

Trim down Civ 7’s kit a bit, and I think I’ll be happy. For example, I like Traditions, but don’t think having an entire separate civic tree for that is worthwhile. I would’ve been fine if they got rid of civ civic trees and just sprinkled traditions across the main one. Merge/balance/adjust as...

Player stats, sales, and reception speculation thread

The discussions were brief and not that pot-stirring, honestly. We did note that they really didn’t say much about Civ 7, and in comparison gave more coverage to other titles released around the same time, including specific metrics on sales and/or user engagement. For Civ 7 it was basically...

Before this current dialogue goes further, I just want to clarify that Ada Lovelace is NOT part of the base game. You do pay for her as part of CotW, along with Simon Bolivar. That’s it, nerd glasses off🤓

Player stats, sales, and reception speculation thread

I think you misunderstood me - that's exactly what I meant. I see a single, unchanging civ as a plausible path that players should be able to play out. That's the whole point of my examples with Transcendence in Humankind and the Mesoamerican playthrough - I just didn't specify which civ...

Without repeating the whole thing, I'd like to share this comment of mine in the civ-switching thread that address your arguments to an extent: https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/whats-your-opinion-on-civ-switching.699056/post-16847033 In summary, I think there is merit to separating...

Player stats, sales, and reception speculation thread

Maybe not as dramatic as doomposting would suggest. But these trends do send an uncomfortable signal of "don't bother with a new Civ game until it reaches deep discounts or the end of its content cycle". Which can become a real worry if your future content development depends on good base game...

What's your opinion on civ switching?

This sounds more like an argument for age transitions rather than civ-switching per se, something that this thread specifically asked to keep separate. Although I must say, there are some aspects where the two are tightly intertwined and it's hard to discuss one without the other.

    Civ Discussion - Assyria

The emphasis is on the "fortification" part. If anything in the game is counted as such, then it works. This is why Forbidden City is somewhat worth it with Ming and not so much with other civs. All fortifications in this game as of now: - Ancient Walls - Medieval Walls - Defensive...

    Civilization VII Update 1.2.3 - July 22, 2025

True, but it does mean that RtR's value proposition is inconsistent with CotW. Since any associated wonder is still available for anyone to build, that is at least 2 wonders not provided by RtR's civ inclusions. Stealth's comment sums it up well:
