    When to use slavery?

Well, this thread has advanced beyond my initial simple question. but I thought I'd post a quick follow-up. I played an all-slavery game the other day and finally figured out (sort of) how to use slavery (at least inthe beginning/mid-game). My problem was that I was using citizen automation...

How to win Space Race before 1900 ...

I've been using a 1:1 worker to city ratio. Sounds like you run a lot more. 2:1? 3:1?

    Condensed tips for beginners?

When I read the descriptions of the games of people who are really good at civ4, they seem to have many more workable tiles than I do. I'm playing the continents map since that feels like earth to me. I alternate between small and standard. But I quickly run out of room for good cities. Peaks...

How to win Space Race before 1900 ...

Interesting. I've been building most of the financial buildings -- market, bank, grocer, etc, in most of the cities. I figured it didn't hurt, especially when I had nothing else to build. I also had all the basic science buildings in all my cities. I've been playing continents since that feels...

    Tips for workers

Wow, do you really get 300+ beakers in medieval era? I'm doing something wrong. I only get that in modern era, and that's just my science city. I'm still learning the specialization obviously. How many specialists do you use when you use caste system? I've never used it, I usually go from...

How to win Space Race before 1900 ...

I dramatically improved my space race to 1926 (from 1986). Still, I wasn't even able to finish all my research before 1900, let alone build the ship. I avoided most of the wonders, and had my cities set to 'Research' when there was nothing to build. Do you usually have to do that to get an early...

How to win Space Race before 1900 ...

Do you mean quick vs normal vs epic? Do the longer game speeds make early space race more likely? I know they make war more powerful, but I hadn't heard the effects on space race.

How to win Space Race before 1900 ...

This is my goal. I'm playing noble. My best time so far is 1986. I used chop rushing and lots of cottages to get that. I think I had too few cities (I only had 6 on that game). I was playing a duel map, and was always the tech leader so wasn't able to tech trade. I played with Elizabeth...

    When to use slavery?

I played my first game using a fair amount of whipping. Seemed to help although my end result wasn't dramatically improved. I won a domination victory about the same time as before (1890s), but this time I had a more powerful economy when I won, with faster research. Wasn't able to translate...

    Condensed tips for beginners?

Good point. I see on my map that the AI put his eastern empire entirely on the coast, probably for just that reason. So I'll have to take out his iron in the west to prevent it from getting to the east. Or I could just take his easten empire.

    When to use slavery?

thanks. Do you have to have something in the queue to get the overflow? Or when the screen pops up to have me pick the next build will the overflow magically go to whatever I choose?

    Condensed tips for beginners?

Can the AI connect to his trade network through my territory? I have bisected the Egyptians, with roads connecting both sides of his empire to mine. His western empire has iron, horses, etc. but his eastern empire does not. Can I assume he can't produce with those resources in the east? Does...

    When to use slavery?

When do you pop rush with slavery? At 3 population,4, 5, 6? I know the basic idea, if I have excess happiness (usually yes in the beginning on Noble, which is what I'm playing) and surplus food to regrow the population. How much surplus food --1, 2, 3, 4? If I'm at population 3 with 2 surplus...

Best civics for warmongering on Noble w/continents?

Yeah, I haven't figured out how to use slavery yet, so I don't use it at all. I should try a couple quick games to learn it. I'm just not sure when I should pull the trigger/crack the whip.

    Worker Automation

How come when I conquer AI cities, they usually have lots of cottages, but when I automate my own workers they tend to build lots of farms? It doesn't look like the same strategy is being used by the AI civs and my automated workers.
