    17th century crumble

@Vranasm, that was very helpful. I have much to learn. I placed Knossos where it is because the AI had placed a blue circle there! I guess I should have used my own head :)

    17th century crumble

Dear all, In my games I usually end up losing my lead around 1700 AD. I do not know where I am going wrong. Please have a look at the saved file and be so kind as to point me in the right direction! More screenshots in my next post (please scroll down)

    Introduction to Civilization

Dear civ newbies, "Civilization 4, the best rated strategy game ever! I must try it!". This is how I started out with Civ 4. However, once I started my first game of Civ I didn't know what I was supposed to do. Build city - OK, build buildings - OK, build units - OK, but where am I headed? This...

Civ 4 heating up my laptop!

Hello all, Mission successful! Installing BtS did considerably bring down the running temperature of my laptop. However, it still heats up some, even though now it happens after more than half an hour of play. I play for 45 minutes, save and continue later. Not a full fix but some respite.

Civ 4 heating up my laptop!

Thank you Mark for the help. I will try the BIOS Update. Btw, Civ 3 is great for the time being. I can do with the dated graphics. In any case Civ gameplay is the 'in your head' type. Besides, I feel it is easier to learn Civ now that there are lesser aspects to focus on. Thanks again!

Civ 4 heating up my laptop!

Thank you Mark, I guess you are right. I was wondering if 'Beyond the Sword' Expansion might fix the problem. The forum has a few posts to the effect that BtS had solved some issues with Civ 4 (eg. frequent crashes). Do you think it might work? Mark, why is it that 'Civ 4: Colonization'...

Civ 4 heating up my laptop!

Dear all, I am new to Civilization 4. I installed the game and applied the 1.74 patch. The problem is that as soon as I start playing Civ the laptop fan vent starts blowing very hot air. If I play for 20 minutes the plastic around the vent becomes very very hot. Sometimes the computer...

Thank you Cheese. <Chess Fanatics Forum?> I had come across a post here on CFC by a guy who wanted to teach Civ to his friend. While reading replies I got the impression that Civ would be somehow more intelligible to a person familiar with chess. I was just clarifying, no intention to...

Thank you Huh. Now moved up to 'Warlord'. Sisiutil, may I say I am honoured? The 'mini-goal' suggestion is fantastic. I was wondering what to work towards when playing a game. All techs look useful. If I simply go after all of them where's the planning. I have understood the game a little...

Huh, Thanks for the help. I am currently playing on settler. There's no action happening and I am easily ahead. Should I up the difficulty or continue playing on Settler till I am familiar with the game some more?

Thank you Manfred. That was very useful. I guess its only natural that a complex game would have a steeper learning curve. The Civ manual has a plethora of details and I was hoping to get into the game and learn by playing. But I guess it is time for 'back to the basics' :)
