My understanding is that Gentoo doesn't use stage 1 or 2 as default any longer, so everything you initially install (by defaultt) is actually precompiled. You can run a stage 1 or 2 installation still, but it isn't the default. That said, I wouldn't recommend Gentoo as a first Linux...

My guess is that the CD you used is a so called "Live CD". That is that Linux boots and runs from the CD unless you actually install it. When you removed the CD and rebooted you were back in the unaltered OS.

If you check the eventlog, does it say anything?

Do you get any error messages?

I had that message in one game (which I had to abandon) and the were small black clouds over the cities. I suppose that is because the unhappiness?

I'd reserve that honour to chess myself - but it is very good, adictive fun.

I recently got back from Cambodia, and the situation is probably as bad there. You are even warned not to stray too far off the road or track or whatever. :sad:

I got that error when running in native Vista mode. When running in W2K compatible mode I got passed that. Now on my Vista sp1 and fully patched CIV I constantly get disc not found errors. My experience is that it either a/ has something to do with the Safedisc secdrv.sys file/system and...

When trying to attack an enemy town I get a red, rotating circle and I can't move my troupes into that space. What gives? (Sorry about the basic question)
