The huge patch 2k is talking about releasing within the next couple of weeks (crossing our fingers) could well be anywhere from 1/2 a GB to a full GB, based on experience with other game patches in the past. But probably not much bigger than that.
If they tinker with the AI like they're...
I've already downloaded the Babylon mod, but all it does is give you an increased chance of a Great Scientist.

I noticed that none of the existing Civs really have any +science traits and thought I'd figure out how to add one, hopefully using the existing tags in the XML files.
So I went to my \XML folder and did a string search in the files for "SCIENCE".
All it found were:

It was my understanding that DX11 would only run on Quadcore machines.
I'm in your boat, too - 3.0Ghz E8400 duocore, 64bit Vista with 4GB ram.
I cannot run Civ5 in DX11, it won't let me.
I read this thread with interest since I am having a constant, recurring freeze-up problem with Civ5. Usually it doesn't happen until about turn 300 or so. I run large maps exclusively because huge is too big and anything smaller just isn't any fun for me. All my video settings except for FOW...
I've been thinking it has to do with the number of units and cities that your client is dealing with - early in the game, with few units/cities, the game runs flawlessly for me. But somewhere around turn 300 or so, it starts slowing way down and will eventually freeze up completely, forcing me...
Maybe it's not luck. The AI does use specialists quite a bit, and if he pumped Great Scientists for the free tech and Great Engineers to rush the Wonder builds, he could do it -- at least that's how I do it, anyway.
First, Quartertothree is NOT an "obscure little known website". It's actually a very good source of gaming information and reviews.
Second, he was probably responding to a request for interview. It wasn't so much his choice of a site, but just their decision to ask for the info.
I've been wondering about that. Two of my games so far have been as Persia so I really do love the Civ, myself, and I've had a personal best of a 60-turn Golden Age. Trying to decompile the math that gave me that length I came up blank. Still not sure what I did, but I do know that if you...
Not many, actually. Then there's companies like Blizzard who have the in-house capital to indefinitely delay release without pressure from investors - when Diablo 3 comes out I expect it to be very close to a "final build". Firaxis apparently isn't that lucky regarding investment capital...
I'm having that same problem in my current game. I had spread out to cover about 85% of my continent and had already wiped out Montezuma in the process. A few hundred years later, here come the Russians and the Arabs trying to settle next to me.
The first war destroyed the Russian empire...
I prefer to call it "Inhibiting the AI", since I had no need nor intention of settling there and if the AI wanted to, let THEM repair all those improvements :D
