Haven't played since May. How are the newest patches?

Should finish off my first marathon game since the patch and it's a major improvement IMO. Balance changes are good, and the game just feels more active the whole way through. I've not had long dead periods where I felt like nothing was happening. The diplomacy makes a lot more sense and is less...

    Worth playing again?

Played a marathon and normal game since the patch. The AI is definitely better, mainly in its approach to diplomacy. So now they don't declare war against me willy nilly if I have a big military, they seem to fight each other more, their city placement is better (but they still tend to just...

The new patch seems to have arrived

Broken saves :( Oh well, was losing my attempt at cultural victory anyway but I'd like to have seen it through.

    abundance of strategic ressources?

My first two games I had a load of horses, iron etc... but no aluminium (very frustrating late game) but the latest one I've only got 4 iron and a measly two horses :( I'm hoping for some decent later game resources like oil, uranium etc... becaue I'll be a bit screwed without them.

Are there any HardCore Civ fans who like CiV?

You certainly have to plan further ahead, and think early on what victory you want to have and really go for it, wheras in tolder games you could sort of meander on for a lot longer and then think "I'd better get my spaceship built now" near the end. I actually think there can be more...

    Start in old world?

Yeah, build times maybe need some rebalancing, as does the happiness/culture penalty of having a large empire, especially on bigger maps. I imagine we'll see a lot of tinkering with these in the first major patch.

    Start in old world?

He's not asking for an Earth map, he's asking for a Terra map. I play them a lot, basically you have two major land masses, and all civs start on one of them, with barbarians/city states on the other landmass. Once you get the tech to cross oceans, people start to colonise the 'new world'...

    Anyone seen this before?

The bonuses from city states can definitely help. I've been pumping gold into all the cultural ones to boost my way to a cultural victory (it's keeping me just ahead of the AI, would slip behind without it) and also have a military one I'm allies with who has provided me with several powerful...

    Majorly disappointed. Content is bad.

Good luck with that. No refunds on activated Steamworks games. Anyway, if you were a Civ fan you'd know that initial release Civ games are always pretty vanilla. Play basic, unpatched Civ 4 and you will see it's in a far less playable state than this with about the same level of...

Who else agrees that Civ 5 has been dumbed down?

Hmmm... this is the kind of stat manipulation you see from politicians etc... :) Fact is, most people who took the poll do not think the game is dumbed down, but hey if you're not really interested in an objective viewpoint then carry on.

Are you mostly playing the Earth map or a random one?

I usually play a mix of different map types, only played on game so far and it was a standard size continents map. Do they have the old/new world type maps of Civ 4? I really enjoyed those.

    What does world age do?

OH yeah, I think you're right :) Either way, it changes how hilly the land is.

Why it matters to let leaders in on your plans

Interesting, I was wondering what these things were for, that makes sense thinking back on my first game.

    What does world age do?

Usually affects the distribution of hills and mountains. Young Earth has less hills, old has more.
