i am trying to play a civ2 game with a friend and do not know how to set up dial-up networking please help

I just got civII and I do not know how to use dial-up networking. In the manual it dosn't go into any detail on how to set it up, only what to do after you have set it up. If there is anyone kind enouph to help me out I would be greatful. I am trying to set up a one on one game with a friend...
